I'm 8 1/2 wks pg w/ #2 and I can't breathe. It comes in waves and I dont have it all the time. We have had some air quality alerts about an hour and a half from where I live, so I've tried to stay inside.

It happens all of the sudden. Example: I woke up this morning and came upstairs, now I cant breathe. We are talking about 15 steps, so no harsh climbs. It seems to happen more often now and I really dont know what to do about it. I considered calling my Dr, but I dont know if I need to.

Has this happened to any of you? If so what was it and how did you help the symptoms?

Thanks for your help.

In early pregnancy, the progesterone changes the way you breath which can result in shortness of breath. I had it really bad myself.

Mention it to your doc just in case, but otherwise just relax and slow down and pace yourself until your body has adjusted to the change.

I am short of breath, too, but think it may be due to possible low blood pressure. If you climbed a bunch of stairs first thing after getting up in the morning that definitely could be low blood pressure - thet's when I feel it the most. Do you get dizzy at all, too?? Your blood volume and pressure changes a lot when pg. I don't know at what point to worry about it. Everything I've read has said just be glad you don't have high blood pressure, which isn't very helpful.

I was able to straighten out my blood pressure last time it was low with the help of my naturopath, but I wasn't pg at the time.

With my last pg I had really low blood pressure. I was not on anything for it, but the doc said to make sure to watch it. Thanks for bringing up that point. I really didnt think about the blood pressure.

Thanks for your help

I've had shortness of breath with both pregnancies. It comes and goes randomly. I'm not over weight or out of shape and I don't have any blood pressure issues. The wierd thing is that it starts in the first trimester before I'm even showing. That makes me think it's a blood volume thing. In a way it feels like something is cutting off my circulation, but I find myself trying to take deep breaths because I feel like I can't get air. I figured it was just a part of being pregnant. I did end up asking my doctor and she said not to worry. She suggusted drinking a big glass of water, I'm not sure why but it does help. It's just such a wierd sensation. Wish I could help more.
