ok- so my backstory- I went off the BCP in January of 2008 and did not ovulate for the first time in a little less then one year later. I first od in December and since then have Od 3 more times each time the cycle has become shorter. My doc wanted to do an HSG as all other tests have come back normal. Should I do this test? She thinks that now I am Oing I could just give it a try on my own, but if I want to, I can get the hSG done in the next week or so. What should I do? I don't want to mess up my body with an HSG. I don't know.

Oh, Lauren,
that stinks that AF came.
I wasn't familiar with the HSG test but I just read a little about it. When you say you can try on your own, do you mean just giving it more time? I would assume you could get the test at a later date if you wanted to wait...? You are young, so that might be one reason to wait. But I see you're moving (to Germany, wow!), so you may want to do any testing before you go so you don't have to deal with it after you move.

Is your impending move stressing you out? Maybe that has something to do with your cycle getting shorter.

It actually just looks to me like your cycles are regulating. They NEEDED to shorten, because you were having really long cycles. You've been charting for four cycles, and now you are really starting to recognize the patterns of your cycle, and it doesn't seem to me like four cycles of not getting pg is quite x-ray time yet. (I'm not counting the cycles before since you weren't O'ing.) That said, since you actually had a pretty great looking chart this time around, it's possible you might want to try some other strategies. I know it sounds a little counter-intuitive, but maybe even BD less? Although I know TCOYF says most men produce enough sperm to be fertile every 12 hours or so, I feel like from anecdotal experience with friends and this board, some women seem to get pg when they back off from that really aggressive BD schedule and give DH enough time to recover in between. This happened to me too--with DD, I did not get pregnant after having perfect charts for several months and BDing many times during the fertile window, but then one month we only BD'd once during my fertile time, and that was the month I was pregnant. Same thing happened to other friends. Might be worth a shot before you get tests on you. Good luck!

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I am definitely EXCITED about my cycles shortening!! I am hoping someday to even O around CD 14!
The BCP really messed me up. I was just not sure if I should get something as invasive as an HSG yet... I am moving with the army so I think I will be able to get it done when I move to Germany, more then likely, but I am not sure. I was just wondering if anyone had thoughts about it, opinions on whether it is safe or not, if it hurts, etc. Most of the cycles I have found that I overdo the BDing bc I think O is happening and then I think I o and I miss the date sorta.

i dont know about dangers or pain but i know any chance you get to avoid x-rays, especially in that area, you should avoid them.

It didn't feel much with the HSG, I liken it to a pap... I remember when I was getting it done I asked about it hurting on here and some other people also mentioned it didn't hurt.

It's really up to you if you get it done at this point or not. It seems like you are regulating on your own. SA is usually one of the first things you get done but if your DH isn't ready for that yet I'd said you could also wait to the get HSG done.

Have you had a transvaginal ultrasound?
