Hi all,

I mostly lurk here, but I have a question and I know I can find good advice in this forum.

My intact son is 7 months old. I have noticed over the last month or so that the opening in his foreskin is smaller, and no longer aligned with the opening urethra (I think that is the technical term...). The opening is definitely smaller, it is not just that he is getting bigger. His urine stream is now altered, sort of like what happens when you partially block the end of a hose.

Anyway, is this something I should maybe have checked out? I just changed pediatricians, she seems pretty cool (understood infant food allergies, did not give me any grief at all about vax, etc). I am not sure how she is on circ. though, so *IF* this is something that should be checked I want to go armed with info.

And if it is something pretty normal in the progression of things I won't bother. Hard to find info on normal and possible problems with all that is out there.

Thanks!!

Are you retracting him that you can tell if the holes align? Just curious because I dont think I can tell if they align on my son

when you say the urine flow is altered like a hose, is it spraying off to one side? or not as much coming out?

As far as the hole being smaller that is normal unless he has been retracted over and over. If he hasnt then the hole will look tiny sometimes like a pin hole but when they actually are urinating the sphincter will release and allow the hole to get bigger. The hole is so small when no urinating to keep out germs and dirt. So that is normal.

No, not retracting or forcing or messing with anything. No one has ever retracted or messed with his foreskin. It was pretty obvious that the holes aligned when he was born. Now it is obvious that they don't. And the opening in the foreskin is now only the size of a pin head. It was larger before.

It sprays out in a fan instead of a stream. Just as if you took a standard garden hose, turned on the water fairly strong, then covered the end most of the way with your thumb. Same sort of before and after the little dude is getting with the parts.

Hope that is a little more clear.

Cool, thank you both so much! That makes sense.

Just wanted to check, I have no experience with an intact penis on an infant as I had never seen one before my son was born.

Hello,

The holes on my son have never lined up as far as I know. He is almost 6 now. It is pretty easy to tell they don't line up because his stream of pee does not come out strait, you can actually see the stream being deflected inside his foreskin and then coming through the opening in the foreskin at an angle. If his pee is strong and long enough the two holes end up in alignment. As far as the spray of pee fanning out, I remember another post years ago with a very similar cause of concern. I do not remmeber if there was any doctor visit or need to be concerned.

Perhaps you could check out what your doctor believes regarding intact care without mentioning anything up front about your concerns. It doesn't seem like your concerns are urgent in nature so you could ask in general first and save the specifics for later if you are satisfied with her response.
