Ds(4) started coughing saturday, no fever. he was still coughing quite bad, so wed morn i took him to dr, who diagnosed asthma plus slight positive strep test. No fever present at all. Ds has been on omnicef antibiotic since wed, he has had 4 doses. I am up at 3am because his cough sounds terrible and he is having breathing treatments, but now he is running a fever of 102.
Could this be pnuemonia, should i take him in or wait til morning for dr?

but i would also try bringing him out into the cold for a few minutes. that always helped my asthma as a kid

DS1 and I both have asthma, and cold air aggravates our lungs.

Obviously, asthma doesn't cause a fever. He could have pneumonia or bronchitis. Or, he could just have a fever from the strep.

I will mention, though, that certain asthma "medications" actually make my asthma worse. Could be the breathing treatments aren't exactly helping him. Honestly, my advice, if the child truly does have asthma, is for him to see an asthma/allergy specialist. General practitioners don't have a good grasp on managing the disease.

Personally, I would give him something to reduce his fever and see if he can get some rest, and take him to the doctor in the morning.

Thanks for replies. I have called dr. waiting on return call to get her opinion. I know its the new cat (we just got a month ago) and now we have found out ds is allergic. However, he wasnt running a fever prior to getting strep. He has had strep for at least 3 days with no fever, all of sudden getting one is the worry for me.

I am lucky I guess in that my peds 5 year old son has asthma, so at least she is educated in that area some, but I know what you mean.

I will get my peds advice(shes gonna kill me for waking her up but hey thats why i pay her 1000000s lol) and see what she says.
I am very paranoid about pneumonia as my older son had it when he was 6 and the drs kept brushing it off as a virus and he was very sick in the end and in hospital for 7 days.
