I hadn't planned on giving DS a pacifier, but now I'm thinking we might need one. I never introduced one because I didn't want to interfere with breastfeeding, and I also didn't want to always be searching for a pacifier.

Now, however, I feel like DS might need one because he is always trying to attach himself to my shoulder, my cheek, my chin, whatever, and that's not really working for me. I have hickeys all over my shoulder. He knows how to suck on his finger, but he doesn't really seem to like it. Same thing with my finger. Sometimes the boob works, but more often than not he gets frustrated on the boob and would prefer my shoulder. I don't even know if he would take one now, but should I try?

DD started to use a pacifier around 13-14 weeks. She had previously used nursing for comfort, but finally figured out that sometimes she wanted comfort but not food. The pacifier is now a sporadic but useful tool in our toolchest of ways to help her get to sleep. She's not addicted to it at all - maybe uses it at most one hour out of the day, total.

I should have said that, yes, he is teething. He bites on my finger occasionally, and that's fine. But he doesn't seem to want to suck my finger or his, just my shoulder, arm, cheek, etc.

I gave in and let my babe have one when he was constantly searching for something to suck on. He really liked having it until he could consistently find his thumb; now he will have nothing to do with the paci and is really happy with his thumb.

We use one too. Eli wanted comfort but not food. When he kept getting food he would toss his head backwards while still attached. It was starting to hurt me so we chose to offer the paci. Gerber makes a nice one that has no hard plastic that touches the baby's face. They are Eli's favorite. He only uses one when he's tired and can't get settled in.

We started one at 3 weeks. Ophelia was eating so much she was getting sick and she just wanted to suck.

We went with the gerber silicone because they are soft and kind of bounce/give in like moms breast when sucked on.

Good luck mamma

You're far past the point of a pacifier causing nipple confusion or supply issues, so I say do it. If it works, it works!
