The pattern is from Knit Baby Head and Toes, same as the Baby Beret/Mothering hat. Seriously, it is an awesome book-- I have made 2 hats from it already and plan to make more hats and slippers. Totally worth the price!

No, they were actually really quick except that I had to rip several rows out of both because I messed up. You really have to concentrate while doing the decreases, but it doesn't take too long. And use stitch markers! I tried to do it without and they got all turned around.
