I learned today that my thyroid is massive and moving into my chest cavity. I am scheduled to see a thoracic surgeon next week for what sounds like serious surgery. I am scared silly. I was wondering if there were any nutritional/herbal concoctions that I could start to help shrink this organ before surgery. Any suggestions or support is appreciated.

I don't have any advice for you...but I can sympothize.

My thyroid is enlarged also, and my endocrinologist is saying that it will probably need to be removed within a year or so (or the alternative is that they can essentially fry it using radioactive iodine). I am trying to put it off for a while if I can since I just had my colon removed. (yes...I suppose I am falling apart...)

I wish you the best of luck!

You're not falling apart! I sometimes feel the same way as I have many ailments. This one is frightening though cause my thyroid is so big. I am sending big hugs your way as well.

Thanks mamas! I learned that I won't have to see the thoracic surgeon but rather a general surgeon. In some ways that is reassuring cause I surely didn't want to be cut down into my chest. I am still going to ask the surgeon about other ways to deal with this issue. In the meantime, I have started supplementing with coconut oil and selenium. Y'all have been helpful.
