I have some cold or something. Coughing and blowing my nose all day, ashy and miserable. I'm well past the point of taking some serious over the counter cold meds, if I wasn't pregnant. But I can't so I'm coming here to bitch instead.:

I hear you. I just got over a week and a half of that stuff. Not taking cold meds was terrible. I can't stand colds.

That sucks. I'm sorry you feel so bad. The only thing that makes me feel better when I feel like that is just to go to bed for as long as possible.

Oh Cinder you sound worse than me. I'm so sorry.

Today isn't as bad, thankfully. DP was great about taking care of DS all day yesterday when I was at my worst. Today I'll be watching the door from 5:00 pm on waiting for him to get home and play with DS.

I was coming down with something last week, but I got some Zicam and used it every 4 hours and it went away. I highly recommend getting some if you can. It works!! Hope you feel better soon!

You may consider a homeopathic remedy, as well. There was some packaged product from Boiron that worked for me, essentially as well as a cold remedy back in the winter when I had a cold. At least I wasn't as totally miserable. With homeopathics it's best to get the *one* particular remedy that will work for you... I've tried a website diagnoser www.abchomeopathics.com and my husband has an aunt who is trained... But if you can find these remedies at a nat foods/drug store, you might give it a go. Hope you ar feeling better soon.

i use home remedies for almost everything, and they really work.

the best home remedy is what your mam always told you - rest and plenty of water! but those don't always work for busy mamas. still, try. and take baths.

for sinus congestion, brew the strongest tea you can stand out of parsley. add honey and a pinch of cayenne. drink it by the bucketload. parsley is a decongestant, but it's safe for babies and pregnant mamas. i've been giving this tea to ds since he was tiny, every time he gets sick. it's so miserable when he can't nurse because his nose is clogged, and this fixes that right away.

sore throat/ cough - lemon juice, hot water, and honey. the strongest you can take, as often as you can. it tastes great and really, really helps.

for chest stuff (and nose/ sinus stuff) i steam my head. pour boiling water into a bowl, add eucalyptus oil if you have it. then hang a towel over your head to tent in all the fumes and sit there until your eyes and nose are streaming. then sit there a bit longer.

for everything under the sun, take raw garlic. dh chops it fine and stuffs it into the middle of a bunch of chewed up food and swallows it. i cut a clove into 2-4 pieces and swallow them like pills. they make me gag, but they have prevented or cured mastitis, yeast, colds & flus, ear infections... you name it, garlic has helped.

if i'm missing anything, ask. i've been collecting peoples' family remedies and trying them out for ages, so i've got a bunch of things that really work.

Josybear has some REALLY good suggestions, I would definitely follow those. We do all of that except the parsley tea, and that's just because I didn't know about it. Now that I do, we will try it out.

We just all got over head colds. I went out and invested in Neti pots for us and they worked great! I highly reccomend them for sinus congestions or itchy, runny noses. I think it would be good for allergies, if I had them.
