When her nose gets smushed just use a finger to depress your breast to give her a little room to breathe. Maybe related--I have the same problem and am pretty large breasted. Assuming her latch looks good, try shifting the angle of your bodies to see if you can get your nipple to meet her mouth at a better angle. Maybe try aiming the nipple at her chin....

This site really helped me figure out how to do it. When my DD's nose is smashed into my breast, I either scoot up on the bed or pull her butt closer to me. Both make her tilt her head up more, and get her nose out of my boob.

I have large breasts. It really helped me to position my baby lower down toward my waist than I thought I needed to. If he came to latch from beneath my breast, his nose was never smooshed. Also, it helped while we were learning to experiment with different tweaks to the position. You could try angling your bodies, so that you make a V shape, if your breasts are large and her nose is in trouble.
We ended up being most comfy with DS's head on my biceps with my arm sort of halfway down to my side and wrapped around him, that way my arm also supports the side of my breast somewhat.
Just keep practicing, and know side lying nursing is truly an art form (well, it was to me anyway). Now that he's more mobile, I just roll over and he nuzzles right in...it gets a lot easier. That website that GoGoGirl posted is really good!

I am very small chested and I had to pull her in close to me in order for it to feel comfortable. So stomach to stomach and made sure her legs and bottom were not away from me.

It took me a good month or two to really get it and be able to sleep while nursing. Now I don't even remember if she woke up at all (other than I am not engorged in the morning....)

Good luck!
