side lying position

We co-sleep with our 11 week old babe, who is usually only up twice in the night. I'm hoping for some advice about how to nurse in the side lying position. I can't quite get the hang of it. Unfortunately, the small isolated community I live in has no LLL or LC, so we don't have anyone we can go to for some help
.

I nurse in this position on the couch when we're napping sometimes, but in bed I have to hold my breast for him or he comes 'unlatched', so I can't fall back asleep until he's done, which kind of misses the point of nursing lying down...lol...

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

sorry, having to remove all posts with personal info due to an online stalker.
It took a while for my dd to get big enough to nurse lying down. I was sooooooo excited when it did happen cause the night wakings were no biggy any more.

As you ds getts bigger and more experienced at nursing, it will come!

I know sidelying and bfing in the beginning can be challenging and when you think " this is supposed to be relaxing" it really messes with your head. dont worry about it. Can you get someone to help you with propping pillows behind you and maybe try folding a small towel up to support the breast. I think that once you accept that it all takes a good amount of patience and practice and enjoy what you have instead of trying to 'get it right" it gets a bit easier. thats what happened for me but it took a while! the babe is soooo young. but that will change! something I found useful was to allow yourself time between nursings to stretch and open up the chest area and back that really takes a beating those early months.

I remember asking the same questions.
I got some good ideas, here's the thread:

There's a link from Jane with some great photos. It's really hard to describe things sometimes.

Notice I was asking when dd was 4 1/2 mo, you're doing GREAT to get this far at 11 weeks!

I found cradling dd's head on my arm helped and putting a folded up receiving blanket under my breast to prop it up a bit. And I STILL have to hold my breast most of the time and dd is now 8 mo. I think I just have heavy breasts and dd still has a shallow latch at times.

Also when changing sides, I roll dd up onto my tummy and over to the other side. I have her head cradled in my arm as I do this. She barely seems to notice this. I do it also to put her back in her SnuggleNest, which we're still using cause she just likes it.

thanks so much for the tips....we'll try them out and keep working on it. The pictures were especially helpful!

Thanks again!

Ds is almost 3 months, and we still can't get the hang of laying down feedings. I always feel like my breast doesn't get drained enough, and still feel full. Whenever we do try though, I do hold it for him the entire time. Will have to check out that link as well. Good luck!
