Anyone have any recommendations for a good sign language book? I went to my local bookstore and was surprised how many books there were on the subject. Rather not rely on Amazon's recs, prefer the gals here!<br><br>
PS I'd prefer a method that uses ASL (mostly) and no videos. TIA!! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/orngbiggrin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="orange big grin">

We have <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325&tag=motheringhud-20&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Fproduct%2F0963622927%2F103-8934349-7953441%3Fv%3Dglance%26n%3D283155" target="_blank">Sign with Your Baby</a> and like it. It's ASL, and it's simple and straightforward.

There is a video for Sign with your Baby, but it's optional. His book is great and covers everything you need to know, and he uses ASL (though encourages parent and baby to also make up signs if that suits them, too). I like his approach, with is based on really communicating with baby in a positive way.

Being a writer I'm all about communication. Does signing delay talking? Have any of you been successful without taking a class on it? What is the age that a baby usually will sign with a parent? Thanks for the book recommendations.<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile">
