Today I was at a maternity store and when I went to pay they asked if I wanted to join their club and then I would get free formula and diapers. I just kinda blinked and then declined since I'm going to cloth diaper and breastfeed. I think I was most shocked because to me it just seems like the natural choice, and shocked that I would be solicited like that.<br>
I guess it's going to be the first of many times, eh?

Motherhood sells their lists to the formula companies. I bought something a few weeks ago and didn't feel like fighting to not give my information (actually they still had it from three years ago which is saying something). I'm kind of looking forward to getting the samples in the mail this time around, so I can write RETURN TO SENDER in big letters on it and send it back.

I'm planning on donating anything that I get this time to a women's and children's shelter. I'll probably keep diapers, though, because we'll use the disposables when traveling and all...<br><br>
I was amazed with DS how many free samples of formula I got, though.. pretty incredible how much the formula co's are looking to give away in the hopes of hooking you into it.

I plan on donating any formula samples I get and....using the diapers...<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/duck.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Duck">: Cloth is just too much for me until they stop pooping every hour...alright I'll admit it, I hate laundry!

When any store asks me for my phone number or whatever, I just smile and say, "No, thank you." If they push me and claim they have to enter something (which doesn't happen often), then I suggest they enter the store's telephone number or a bunch of zeros.

I got a baby targeted clothing coupon in the mail today so I know that the formula and diapers can't be too far behind <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/irked.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="irked">:<br>
I hate that someone sold my name! I refused this time to give my name to Motherhood, so I am not sure where it came from.<br><br>
It is frustrating being the target of such an insidious campaign.<br>
I will be donating the formula...it isn't like they send me the special kind that I use for my four year old (and at $40 a day I don't think they would!)

It was at the Motherhood store. They also asked for a lot of information, address, full name etc etc. I was too tired to argue and gave it. I never thought of donating the samples. I think that's a great idea.

Anyone aware of the WHO code of marketing of breastmilk substitutes??? Nestle are one of the worst violators worldwide, including the US; and yes, I know that the US has chosen not to enforce the legislation but Nestle still know they're being dishonest and doing something that the rest of the global population believes is WRONG.<br><br><a href="http://www.babymilkaction.org" target="_blank">Baby Milk Action.</a>

I'll donate them to a food bank. There are people who can use that stuff, and while I'd rather encourage everyone to nurse I know it's not gonna happen. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/guilty.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="guilty">:<br><br>
I just think it's sad that they send you HUGE numbers of samples if you say you're going to breastfeed, but if you say you're going to feed artificially, they send a couple token coupons and that's it. Apparently women who start out nursing are more likely to use abm for a full 12 months if they switch, and also more likely to use transitional abm (the newer "toddler formulas") later. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/gloomy.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Gloomy">:

That's a great idea. I usually purposely spell something wrong to see who's selling the info. Motherhood is the WORST! So far I haven't gotten much this pregnancy, but with DD I was getting full size cans of formula in the mail. I gave them away because I didn't even want that temptation in my house. I'm sure I would have given in and used it at 2 am, when I was totally sleep deprived with a baby who was hungry but we couldn't figure out how to latch-on. It's so sad because that's exactly what these formula companies are trying to do! I'm so glad I had no other choice but to breastfeed (or drive to the store at 2am with a screaming baby!) and DD never had formula.

Yeah. See, I knew I'd never cave. I'm way too stubborn for that. My son actually had a CASE of ready-to-feed liquid ABM sent to him, in premeasured bottles. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/dizzy.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Dizzy">: The case was opened once when I had only pumped enough milk for two bottles. My sister took one out of the case and put it on the piano, so I'd see it when I walked in the door. "A threat," she called it, "To remind you to pump." <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/yikes2.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="yikes">: <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol">

they tried to give me this pregnacy bundle on base, I thought it was impotant info for Tricare and policiues and stuff, NOOOO I knew when I saw phizer and other pharm comapnies on the bag I was like NOOO thank you and they kept pushing, but there are free diaps, 'I use cloth' that face was [riceless! Then she told me free formula, then I asked what would be so wrong with putting some LLL info and breastfeeding support in there. I walked away before she could hand we The Wonders of Vax crap

When I was pg with my first, my sister was pg with her second. She checked off (or whatever you do) formula feeding and I, breastfeeding at maternity stores and when getting subscriptions to baby magazines. I got cases of formula, she got coupons. I haven't signed up for anything since and haven't received any more formula ... but this time around I totally forgot about the formula thing and got a free subscription to a mainstream baby magazine (why? pregnancy-induced insanity maybe??? <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol">: ) so I'm assuming that I'll be getting formula in the mail!!! I'll donate it to a local food pantry or women's shelter.

not in your DDC but I just received a big honkin' can of powdered enfamil in the mail. It's in a box along with all the disposable diapers (including coupons) I received. Going to get dropped off at a woman's shelter.

I"ve gotten so much... i can remember a box with not one but THREE full sized cans of formula, and several boxes with two full sized cans and one sample sized can. It's so insane to me. I tell everyone who's planning to artificially feed that they should check 'breastfeeding only' on those questionaires, because they'll get more samples. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/dizzy.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Dizzy">:

OK, thinking women of the USA. WHY THE HELL ARE YOU LETTING THEM GET AWAY WITH THIS CRAP AND NOT LOBBYING TO HAVE THE WHO CODE OF MARKETING ON BABY MILK SUBSTITUTES RATIONALISED IN YOUR HOME COUNTRY???????????<br><br>
Illegal. Wrong. Murderous. And you're sitting by and letting them do it.<br><br><br>
Sorry. I just get really frustrated with the American way of working around corruption. It's like telling a whole class of schoolchildren to walk around the dog poo, rather than just picking it up <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/greensad.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="greensad">

The dairy industry = major lobbying dollars. Efforts have been made, but it's damn near impossible if you don't have oodles of money to contribute to your cause. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/gloomy.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Gloomy">:

Same situation elsewhere in the world <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/wink1.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="wink1"> Sorry, it's a touchy subject for me. I saw an (insert obscene expletive here) SMA ad on TV the other night in the middle of Dumped. I can't believe how cheeky those companies will be.<br>
FWIW, Nestle don't have ANY baby products in the UK marketplace as a result of the boycott. NONE. They tried to introduce a range of toddler solids a few years ago, and nobody bought them so they slunk quietly away back under their rock.
