I have a sinus infection. Right now I'm drinking as much tea as I can stomach (the warmth helps!) but what medicine is safe to take? I usually take Contact. :

First of all, huge hugs. I got rid of my chronic sinus infections when I gave up drinking milk (not dairy products, just the straight milk in a glass). Turns out I'm allergic to it! I know what you're going through.

Get a bulb syringe and flush out your nose. It will help loosen mucus and you can blow a lot more out (sorry to be gross!)

Next - and I don't know if you can stomach this right now as I'm pretty sure I couldn't - a clove or two of fresh garlic pressed into a glass of tomato juice will help clear you out some. But again, not sure it that can be tolerated!

As for OTC stuff, call your doc. I have no clue about that stuff and I only have a site for prescription drugs, none of safety of OTC.

I hope you feel better soon!

I second what Jenn said about flushing out your sinuses. BUt don't use straight water, that hurts. Use a saline solution -you can make one up at home. Recipe and directions here: http://www.med.umich.edu/1libr/guides/salinenasal.htm

Last time I was pregnant, I got a really bad sinus infection that wouldn't go away on its own. I ended up taking antibiotics for it and my family doctor recommended using Afrin - I was not in the first tri though, so double check with someone if you want to try that.

I hope you feel better. sinus infections are the pits.

I hope you're feeling better soon. Last night I finished antibiotics for a sinus infection and strep throat. I didn't take any OTC meds, as I was already upset enough that I had to take the rx. My pcp did say I could take Tylenol and plain Sudafed, but I hadn't checked with my m/w. I really don't remember what, if anything, I took with my other pregnancies.

We pg women should get free passes from getting sick; it's just not fair!!

Well I am feeling about 50% better today than I was yesterday. Still not fully healthy and recovered, but at least able to function.

Of course, my DD is starting to have a runny nose/watery eyes, which are always my first visible symptoms. :

I don't drink milk...only dairy I have is cheese, and then only infrequently. But the allergy connection is interesting - I might see if I can't get an allergy test done. My sinus infections are chronic, as well - I get one in the fall and one in the spring. I used to think it was due to smoking, but I quit 2.5 years ago.

Dairy products have a huge link to chronic sinus infections. I'd have to do some research.

I had daily headaches from milk. I'm also allergic to apples, fruits with pits (fresh peaches, cherries, etc.), filberts, english peas, almonds, sesame. That was all from a skin test.
