I have been sick with one for over a month and finally broke down Mon and went to the doctor. Because I waited so long, instead of being on the normal 10 day treatment, I have a 28 day prescription. I know how ya feel. I could sit down and cry right now. My head hurts and my eyes hurt and my throat hurts and I just feel yucky!!!!!!!!!!!!: :
I have one right now as well. I'm treating it the way our now retired Chiropractor told us to. It is a painful treatment but it works. Disolve about a tsp of salt, I'm using sea salt, in 1/2 cup of warm water. Hang your head upside-down over the bathtub and slowly pour/inhale the water, you only need a tiny bit, up your nose. It burns like a ^#%@* but almost immediately it begins to drain the infection. I did it twice tonight about 10 min apart and have still been blowing crud out. I'll do it again tomorrow morning and night. Hopefully that will be it. Now I don't do this unless I have to, the last time was about 6 yrs ago. I also haven't heard of it anywhere else except from our Chiro., she was allergic to all antibiotics so she had many tricks.
I would be interested to know if anyone else has heard of, or does this?
If you try this or not, I hope you get some relief soon.
I've had a chronic sinus infection for about a year in the past. Interestingly, getting pregnant is what finally put and end to it. The flight physician I saw before returning to work told me that he has seen that kind of thing many times with flight attendants where getting pregnant will mysteriously cure sinus problems.

Well, if getting pregnant is not possible, the saline rinse that Momo'sMum posted is something that has helped me too, only I was told to add baking soda to adjust the PH. I think it's 1/4 tsp.

Good luck, my heart goes out to you, I know your pain.
The saline nose drops thing really does work, especially in a steamy room. Give yourself a little break and use a nose dropper instead of just pouring or snorting.

And for what it's worth, do be wary of the doctors and their drugs. I had chronic sinusitis for 4 years that developed antibiotic resistance because an aggressive ENT prescribed amoxicillin every time I had allergic rhinitis. It had to be resolved surgically, and the surgery left me with a deviated septum.

Oh, and you know what really works, especially if you do it before the saline nose drops? The Thai soup known as Tom Yum Goong - shrimp, lemongrass, and hot chile soup. It gets the nose running. Then go flush it out. Boiled crawfish work pretty well, too, but I have a feeling you can't get your hands on those too easily.

Feel better soon!
Is a netti pot as effective? How about the blue ball snot sucker for babies....can I fill that up with salt water and shoot it up there? Could I add garlic to the water....like a garlic infusion?

My Dr is not available for the next two weeks and our insurance runs out next week and we won't have it again until July. The other option would be to go to the ER and pay the $75 for that. I do not want to go to the ER for a sinus infection. :
I would do lots of garlic and vit. c... but also this...

http://www.earthclinic.com/CURES/sinus_infection.html

2 tsp. Bragg Raw Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar with "the Mother" in 8 oz of filtered water 2-3x's a day.

The ACV will almost instanty loosen the secretions clearing your sinuses.

If you drink this at the first sign of congestion it can help prevent a sinus infection from occurring.

Also, colloidal silver is a natural antibiotic that can be effective in treating a sinus infection. There are even colloidal silver nasal sprays. Careful though not to take it longer than needed.
I did the rinse posted by momo'smum and added the baking soda as suggested by maxmommy. It cleared things up enough after doing it 2x within 10-15 minutes that I could use my neti pot, at least on one side. Last week I couldn't get my Neti tx even working b/c of the blockage. Last night sleeping was so much better. I did the rinse again this a.m. and the neti again and was able to use it on the side that I couldn't last night. I'll probably need to do this several more times to clear and dry out my sinuses.
One more thing to try is a hot pack. Lay down and place a hot pack/hot water bottle/etc over your eyes and sinus area. Keep it on there for 5-10 minutes 3x a day. It seemed to be the only thing that gave dh any relief when he had a sinus infection last month.

You could also add grapefruit seed extract to the saline solution for the neti pot: 4 drops per cup of water.

I'm taking grapefruit seed extract capsules orally.

I took some ACV last night and immediately my nose starting running. I took some more this morning and I've been blowing my nose all day. I can breath out of both nostrils at the same time! I also started taking some homeopathic tablets.
