when did you let your dc explore with a sippy cup? Tell me where i can get the world's best sippy cup (LOL) I really just mean one that is safe (doesn't have nasty plastics or chemicals) and durable, non-leaky is a plus, etc.

Around or just before 6months.

I actually WANTED a leaky one. I don't like the way that they have to suck on the valved ones so we mostly stuck with the ones without a valve. Since we only gave her water in it it didn't matter that much.

My ds is 6 months and i've been thinking about introducing a sippy cup. Not because i feel like he has to learn to drink from it or anything like that but really just to offer it to him while he sits in his high chair while DH and I eat dinner. So far we've been taking turns holding the baby/us eating. We're hoping soon to start sitting down as a family and i'd like to give ds a sippy while he's sitting with us. I was thinking of putting breastmilk in it, but do you think i should do water instead? He's not doing solids yet...I tried letting him gnaw on an organic banana but he ended up with bright red cheeks, runny nose and bloody poop, so he's back to exclusive bm for now. Do you know any good "brands" of sippy cups?

*I'd* do water- but I didn't pump... so I didn't have a lot of extra milk sitting around.

personally i don't like the spill-proof ones. when each of my kids was sitting well i'd give them an occasional cup (with a lid but will still drip) of water. right now the 10 month old loves to drink from her cup. some still dribbles out of her mouth but as its still water it's ok. each of them (the older ones) was drinking from a cup well at a year. and they knew they couldn't throw it or drop it and it had to be set down. yes, it took more to teach them but i hate seeing kids walk around with a sippy cup at 2 and 3 years old! they are old enough to be able to drink from a regular cup by then! just a little pet peeve i have. and if it's "spill-proof" thay have to suck so hard on it! i hate that. i babysit a girl who is 3 1/2 and still uses a spill proof cup! she can't drink out of a regular cup without spilling it all over the place- that's just lazy to me. why not teach your kids to drink from a regular cup? anyhow- like i said, it's just a pet peeve of mine....
