Our 10.5 week old has developed what seems like a skin infection in one of the skin folds of her neck. It looks red, irritated, and has a white substance on it. We noticed it was red on wednesday after her bath, and thought that perhaps it was just irritated from us washing it during her bath. She was stubborn on Friday's bath and didn't let us lift her head to clean her neck skin folds. Today it was as described above, with an oozy white substance and a smell to it. We called the pediatrician and were told to wash it thoroughly with soap and water and put neosporing on it. And to go see them at the office tomorrow. She doesn't have a temperature, she's acting fine, eating fine, and she didn't mind us washing it and putting neosporin on it (doesn't seem to hurt).
I was told by someone else that it might be a fungal infection, and not a bacterial infection, so the neosporin won't help if that's the case and that I should use something with miconazole. With Drs being antibiotic happy, it wouldn't surprise if that's the case. Has anyone had experience with something like this? How long did it take to clear up? What did you use?
I wanted to come here and ask before going to see the pediatrician tomorrow.
