My son id 5 months old. He is long but skinny with narrow hips. I find it very difficult to find something that fits him in the waist. He is mostly in SLeepers now, but I would love to dress him up in 2 pieces. Any suggestions on some brands that cater to skinny babies?

You could use cloth diapers, they fatten up any baby!

My daughter is like that (she needs the length of a 6-9mos, but isn't chubby enough to keep them up), so, we put her in overalls a lot....the straps hold them up for her. :)

I also found that a brand called "Koala Kids" (it's sold at babiesrus...don't know where else) tends to work for her...the pants seem longer than "usual", and they tend to have thicker waistbands which stay up better. To me (who is loathe to spend more than two dollars on an item of baby clothing), they seem pricey, but, they've held up REALLY well. Katie grows slowly, so, she's been wearing some of the pants for six months straight now, and they're fine.

My 5 mo old DD is like that, too. So were my other 2 kiddos. You might try European or French brands. You can get them on Ebay or Ebay.co.uk or French Ebay, too. Brands you might seek are Petit Bateau, Jacadi, and also possibly Tartine et Chocolat, Bonpoint - though they're harder to find.

I agree - overalls are good, too. Osh Kosh B'gosh run slim, too.

Good luck! It can be done!

my 3 month old is tall and thin and nearly impossible to clothe too! with long feet besides *sigh* So she's outgrown the length and/or feet of some items quickly. But pants are nearly impossible for her too because they fall off. I have one-piece items that are too short in the legs that I've rolled the arms on too! I can't WAIT till it's consistently pretty warm and she can always be in DRESSES.

DS was skinny too, had a little of the height thing with him too but nothing like her.

I second the overalls, I have ONE infant pair that are currently getting a button fixed so she can wear them. They were her brother's, but they're denim Pooh bear, to me that's an either/or item.
She has a Gymboree outfit she got as a gift, with pants, they work excellent as the waistband's elastic so they stay up. Children's Place the zipper jammies you can buy 3 for $25, she's in 3-6 month of those now and they seem to be great in foot size and length and manage to do it without being huge through her middle. My Carter's two piece things tend to run big, but I had a Target Carter's newborn outfit where the pants were good for her and a Walmart Carter's one piece 0-3 month that STILL fits her. (those seem to run really big)
Then I have this Carter's outfit from Sears that's a onesie with elastic waist pants and those pants fit great and are good on length. Don't ask me what the difference is, I know the Walmart and Target Carter's are a particular line but I thought the Sears ones were the same as the rest of the mall stores Carter's clothes? The other two Carter's outfits, one I got at a consignment store but I know it's a 'mall' one because I remember seeing that line for girls there when I was preggo with DS. The other was a hand me down from a friend. Like I said, I dunno, but try the Carters stuff that's at Sears, the tag sizes say 3 months, 6 months, etc rather than the usual range of 0-3, 3-6...

I find for pants that Cherokee works well and they're usually really cheap and/or on sale at Target. My DS who will be two next month is very tall, but thin, and The Cherokee pants are the only ones that stay up other than fitted waist pajama bottoms. Though we usually still buy 18 months for the waste and they're just a little short on him. 12 month size in any other brand fit him great at the waist but make him look like he's going wading. Also, a few types of Cargo pants and corderoy (I can't spell that, sorry) at Old Navy are tapered in at the waist and stay on DS REALLY well.

My favorite pants for my ds were the American Apparel fleece lined ones...you can get them cheaper through Amazon. Search for American Apparel and karate pants (lighter weight) and the fleece-lined ones for cooler weather. Great for skinny kids!!

I've also had luck with some Target brand stuff.

Carter's runs way too big...don't bother

He's growing out of his 3-6 sleepers, but I had a pair of 0-3 shorts on him yesterday and had to put a diaper pin in the waist! My sister and I have had alot of luck with overalls and suspenders. Otherwise I have found those soft stretch pants in khaki color and use those with the cute little collared shirts, instead of jeans.
