My twins (21 months old this week) have always been pretty bad sleepers. By bad, I mean they don't really need all that much sleep (it's only bad to me & daddy, because we're often exhausted).

The last few days they've been napping very little or not at all. Their naps used to last anywhere from 1.5-3 hours. But now they'll sleep between 0.5-1.5 hours. 3 days out of the last 7 they haven't napped at all.

Is this normal?

I'm not sure I'm ready for this.

Sounds normal to me. My son is 28 mos. and naps about 4 days a week, and has for a few months. He naps for 1-2 hours. My friend's same-aged son takes shorter naps, but goes to bed earlier than Julian. I think as long they're getting at least 10 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period, it's pretty normal- some kids do it all at night, others nap. My son is on the low end of sleeping- he sleeps 9 hours a night and takes a 1-2 hour nap. He never slept as much as babies are "supposed" to.

my ds totally quit napping at around 20 months. dd is 24 months and occaisionally will skip them (and sometimes *i* skip them - if we're not at home or whatever) and sometimes (like today) sleep for 3 hours. i think it's pretty normal. i had a hard time giving them up when i went to school. i used to fall asleep on the bus ride home. i wish i could still take a 3 hour nap every day :LOL

Yep I'd agree with the previous posters, my dd gave up naps completely at 18 months - she never slept a huge amount during the day anyway - about an hour at the most!!

I'd say it certainly is normal, but it may change back. My DS, 28 mos., started resisting naps and skipping them regularly around 25 mos. I was pregnant and terrified he was giving them up for good! But somehow he started getting tired again in the afternoons, and now will usually take one that is about 2 hours long. (He used to nap 3 hours but I'm not complaining!) I just pray he keeps it up awhile longer. If he doesn't nap he gets really grumpy and irrational, and getting through the afternoon and dinner is a nightmare. Plus, I need the break and the time to spend with newborn DD!
