I have PCN, so there are a limited number of obgyns that are covered. These are the only ones listed for Salt Lake, does anyone have any experiences (good or bad) with them?

E Keith Hansen MD
Arlen K Jarrett MD
Fred F Langeland MD
Also, if anyone else has PCN and knows have any other docs that take it, let me know. Thanks!

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT go near Hamer Reiser. Ugh.

I had a miserable experience with him and my first baby. He told me
flat out that he cuts episiotomies on 97% of first time moms because
they don't stretch far enough. (I was so uneducated at that point.)
Well, guess what I got? A Dr that came in as my dd was crowning, an
episiotomy before he did anything else, and a whole bunch of
stitches. He was in and out in 20 minutes. He never did anything to
help me stretch, just cut.

THEN, for my second, I was planning a natural birth in the hospital
with my family practice Dr who is great. Long story short, my labor
was 45 minutes from start to finish, and she was born in the car on
the way to the hospital. I tore significantly, and ended up at L&D
at LDS to be stitched, and he was the Doc on call. It was awful. He
made several choice comments like "THIS is why I'm not a fan of
natural childbirth," or "If she would have had an epidural, this
would have been so much easier," or my personal favorite, "Its not my
fault you're in so much pain. You'll have to take that up with
God." Never, ever, will I let him near me again!

Take it for what its worth, but eve my family practice Doc shuddered
when he heard that Dr Reiser was on call after my dd's birth. He
said that when he was doing rotations, they used to call him "The
Hammer" because he was so brutal to women.

Good luck! Do you have any cnm's listed? There are some good ones here!

I think there might be other OBGYNs or CNMS willing to take PCN, but none are listed. I'm not planning on delivering with an ob, I just am looking for one for well-woman care (might as go to one my insurance will pay for). But it is good to hear birth experiences with these doctors since well-woman care is a good chance to develop a relationship with an OB in case I ever need to use one as back-up for a homebirth.

Crossing Reiser off the list... what an awful story! I am so sorry for you.
