DD had her sleep deprived EEG this morning. We managed to keep her awake from 3am till her appointment at 9.30am.

She was frightened and upset by the procedure but thanks to the wonders of mothers milk I was able to nurse her to sleep without any problems.

She slept for about 20 minutes and then they woke her up.

She has been awake since! Only 6 hours sleep instead of 12 last night and still awake! Not sure how she is doing it.

The technician was very quiet and we have a 2 week wait now for the results but at least the EEG is over.

I'm glad the procedure went well. I recall when DS had his EEG.........I don't know who the sleep deprivation was worse for- him or me!! LOL

My DS was maaaaad when we had to wake him up 20 minutes into it- he looked at me like "uh mommy trying to sleep here!!??"

The wait for results is hard, just keep busy and think happy thoughts!

As I understand it the brain waves change during sleep which can show up things which might not show on a normal eeg. Also sleep deprivation is a trigger for seizures making it more likely that one will occur during the eeg I suppose.

We had to make sure she had 6 hours less sleep than she normally did. On a normal day she will sleep from 6.30pm to 6.30am. We kept her up until 9pm which was as late as she could manage and then we woke her up at 3am. The appointment was at 9.30am. The hardest part was keeping her awake in the car on the way.
