Sleepy Child, Nervous Mom

My son will be one in a month- and he seems to be going through the opposite of a growth spurt. Instead of his 'usual' one-two hour naps, he's napping for three or more, or four times a day!

He's a lot more playful and active when he is awake- he's trying to cruise, and say new words/sounds, and trying things like clapping his hands or beating on pans, so I guess it's making him more tired, it's just making me a little nervous- that feeling of, "It's quiet- tooooooo quiet!"

He's still sleeping through the night, so I'm not worried it's disrupting his schedule too much, I'm just curious if anyone else has noticed their kids changing to more sleep instead of less for periods of time?

how many hours does he sleep at night? this is what i got from the dr.sears website as a general guideline:

Age
Birth to 3 months....14 to 18 Hours per Day
3 to 6 months...14 to 16 Hours per Day
6 months to 2 years...12 to 14 Hours per Day
2 to 5 years...10 to 12 Hours per Day

do you mean he sleeps 4 hours a day or 4 naps a day?
my ds has always fluctuated with nap length but when he was that age a 3 hour nap was pretty common! if he seems alert and active and still behaves normally
i guess wait it out unless you're truly worried, which i hear is the tell-tell sign!

If there is one thing that is consistant with my 2 it is that they never sleep the same amount of time...don't know if that is normal or what?
DS 2 will sometimes have a 20 min nap and sometimes have a 3 hour nap. It depends on loads of things...how much he has eaten before he goes down, what he has been doing in the morning, how much sleep he had the day/night before...I wouldn't worry to much...I think you are right about his extra physicality and a need for more nap time, he is using more energy and needs more down time...take that time to do something for yourself, have a nap or put your feet up...take a bath....

...come to MDC? Heehee!

I think you're both right, I guess I just needed to hear someone else say, "Trust your instincts." Thank you, I'm so glad this board is here!
