I would like to make a toddler sling or some sort of hip carrier for Maxi out of hemp jersey (will that work?). Does anyone have instructions for something fairly simple to construct? I am a fairly experience sewer but havent done a lot of complicated stuff.

TIA!

I haven't made any slings yet (slogging through a bunch of diapers), but here are the links I've found on making slings:

directions for a pouch sling

a tube sling

a forum for sling making

links for sewing slings

There's also a yahoo group for sling sewing (can't find the link right now).

After I'm done with diaper production, slings are next. When you make yours, would you post back about what you ended up doing?

I made a Maya Wrap ringed sling using the instructions on their site. SUPER EASY. Hardest part is finding the heavy-weight metal rings (which are more durable than plastic). I ended up getting mine from a saddle & tack shop (you know, for horses!). Here's a link to the instructions for both the Maya sling and the pouch:

Maya Pouch: http://www.mayawrap.com/n_makecarrier.php

I've also made a non-adjustable pouch, but this is really better suited (IMO) for a newborn moreso than a toddler. Here's the instructions:
