Happy Birthday Supi - wouldn't it be a trip if it was a Birth Day in more ways than one.....?!

great to see everyone at SG this morning. That little Gracie was nothing but grins the whole time, very sweet and "John" was lucky to escape w/ his parents, almost baby-napped by the girls & I. Great to see Scribbler & her boys, got the camping trip all figured out - still room for more. Wacka - we missed you.

Did I tell you all about this cool class that starts next Thurs? It's called "The Artist's Way" and is based on the book by Julia Cameron. It will be devoted to finding your inner creativity that sometimes get stamped out by childrearing and life in general, "A Course Devoted to Discovering and Recovering Your Creative Self". I'm going to take it - If you are interested in joining, pm me. It's mornings 9-11 a.m. at 49th and Chowen in Mpls.

thanks snow & kdmw! while i am feeling very ready to meet this little squirmer, i don't think i'll be having this baby today...but soon! i had lots of contractions last night...they even woke me up. this morning, my blood sugar was great (83)...and before we left for our 3 mile hike today i went to the bathroom and i'm pretty sure some of my plug was in my undies (tmi?). i walked 5 miles yesterday (up to summit, to the coop, to penzeys, then back to the coop to meet bill), 3 more today (at frontenac state park). hopefully it will help get my body and the baby ready.

we had another prenatal on thursday. i threw up right before the appt i was so nervous. luckily, the ultrasound and every other test they did looked great. baby, placenta, and i are all healthy. BUT, the midwife we saw (the first time we've met with her) wants to induce because she thinks the baby is big. every week it seems to be a different concern...and every week each midwife dismisses the concerns of the previous week. how am i supposed to trust these people? anyway, we see one of our favorite cnms on monday...so we'll see what he says and make some choices after that. maybe with these contractions and losing my plug, this baby will come as nature intended and they won't have to keep stressing me out!

hey sisters~

supi...happy happy!!!!

daam...ok there was more to reply to but i'm bone-weary. emil's wasn't as horrid as usual. dh and ds had a great time. ds got his very first 2-wheeler (red, retro radio flyer) and loves it; kept running out to kiss it. they are doing work in her yard (that is what all these mini reunions have been for) and had to soak the hard desert dirt over night. there was a very thick, deep mud pit. ds was standing shin-deep in it and someone pushed him into it! ok it was me. he was shocked and when i told him it was ok, he was in piggie heaven (wallowing and rolling in it). the best part was me standing up for myself finally. i'm so sick of his family arguing with me when i say that ds cannot do something. i told his brother in a calm voice 'i appreciate hearing your opinions, but i'm not going to argue with you any further. i am his parent, and you have no say.' (in my head i added 'so go f**k yourself') everyone just stood there shocked. what kills me is that none of them were shocked when a grown man handed a barefooted 5yo klutz a 5ft long metal shovel to play with. that's how they are the imbeciles.

on that cheerful note lol. sleep tight!
mamarsupial! Happy birthday!!!!! You'll have your baby in nine days! haha otis was born nine days after my birthday. Sounds like your doing really good with the walking. Towards the end of my pregnancy I was plugging along at a mile or so a day and I was huffing and puffing. Good luck!

mamar--here's hoping you meet that babe soon! and HAPPY YOU DAY!

moon--yippee to sticking up for you and glad the trip wasn't as bad as you'd thought it would be.

snow--class sounds great! too bad i gotta work...

we had a great time at 1st Ave last night. those jayhawks sure know how to put on a show!! and the kids had a great sleep over at MIL's! watched movies and ate popcorn in her bed, she slept with them in her bed for a while (until she went to the couch due to space issues--3 people in one double bed is crowded!)

making chili...mmm! sure love the fact that in autumn i can make chili and lasagna and all those hearty foods!!

DD got stung yesterday on her lip! we were at our playground and had juice left over from our Subway picnic. never even thought to look in it...so she ran over crying "there's a bee in my juice!" and was so mad about the fact that she couldn't drink it anymore...i asked if it stung her and she said no, but her tongue hurt...i looked and couldn't see anything, so after cuddles she went back to playing. we left the playground about 10 min later and drove home. as i went to unbuckle her from the carseat, i saw her lower lip was HUGE!! so we iced it and joked about the bee thinking her juice was a swimming pool...looked much much better a few hrs later and seems back to regular size today!

but on a happy note, DD pooped in the potty today and has been wearing undies since then...

michael moore's new book is being released Oct 7th!!

missed ya'll at SG, esp those families that we so rarely see!! and i suppose this weekend it'll be real quiet there with so many of you doing that nature thing!

fast update from supi here! thanks for all the bday wishes! i got a great gift - more plug! woo hoo! tmi, i know...but in light of the induction fever that caught the cnm we saw last week, any sign that my body is doing its own thing is so comforting and empowering! walked around the sprawl today, got my haircut at the aveda salon, and even ran into scribbler and family! more contractions. will be eating spicy thai food for dinner, baths, massage, and hopefully a good prenatal in the morning!

Should be off to bed soon... hopefully G will be more happy & not gnaw on the table... am I raising a baby beaver?

We went out for spicy Indian food sat night and for a growler (thank the big goofball for us jess), prolly why john was up a few times last night!

I don't know where your at with your knitting , but I have a totally TUBULAR wool soaker pattern. Or if your using cloth diapers? Just need to spread this wonderful pattern around. And also do you know how to knit socks??? Maybe a knitting group??? Most knitters have negative ammounts of childern , it would be cool to get a group together of momma knitters.

Good grief. W was fine all morning till I got online.:
whew, she found her toys.

Hi!!!!!

Someday I will make it to SG again. I swear.
We had a pretty good weekend. Dh didn't want to go shopping for maternity clothes so we ended up going to Ren. Fest. i had a pretty good time. Dh and S had a blast! W was walking everwhere(we brought the stroller, too!) trying to make friends. I helped W feed some animals and she tought that was just too cool. She laughed so hard she started slipping off my lap! Dh & S got a set of those crystal stix things. I cracked up watching them try to work them.....I see long weekends of practice this winter.

Dh and I argued again last night. I was pretty disappointed about not getting any clothes. I wouldn't have minded going to Ren.Fest if he hadn't 'forgotten' he promised to shopping and announce IN FRONT OF S that he wanted to go there. S got all excited and I couldn't say no with out being the evil mom. I was pretty peeved over the lack of choice, ykwim? Plus, we don't have the money to do both. Now I can't go shopping, unless I pull money out of savings. I won't do that and dh knows it. I know it's petty. He knows how I feel, kinda, he didn't really see the problem. He thinks he was 'in trouble' for forgetting another promise he made to me. I know he has a bad memory but, sheesh he's never forgotton a football game or anything important to him.

School's going well for S. We are really getting a routine down and have added almost of the reg. stuff back in. We start slow or end up waaayyy overwhelmed. I'm prolly going to see if there's any mucic lessons around here she could take.

Moon- woohoo on sticking up for yourself! Giving any child a 5 ft. metal shovel isn't what I call a good idea either.lol

supi- Happy belated b-day! And yay on the plug loss.

Saramama- Sounds like James had a blast!

Must run, W is tearing her 'still under construction' room apart! aaaaagggggghhhhh!

sorry for the redundancy and the DAAMness of this post, but i wanted to give y'all the update. this is what we just sent out to our families...

well, we had a great prenatal this morning...after having a stressful one last week. the good news - all signs point to labor starting very soon!

last week we had our first ultrasound. babe, placenta, fluid all looked great. all our tests were great. we were feeling great...then the cnm, karin, said 'let's induce you.' um, WHAT? her reasoning - big baby. so, today we were supposed to have another prenatal and then go in for some cervical gels to help get labor started.

a few things concerned us about last week's visit. 1. if all the tests were okay, and the baby, placenta, and i were all okay, why did she want to induce? 2. when we asked about waiting until the end of the week she said "yea, we might not even be able to fit you in next week...this isn't an emergency" which made us wonder again - if its not urgent, why then did she want to induce at all? and 3. a drug called glyburide was prescribed to help lower my morning blood sugar level (the 'fasting' reading, which has been on and off borderline). we filled the prescription, then read through the information with it and found that it was not safe to take after 38 weeks of pregnancy (and the day we filled it, we were 38 weeks). we did a little more research and decided we were not comfortable with taking the medication. the visit was with one midwife, but an ob was also consulted, so maybe there were some crossed wires somewhere. regardless, it all was very stressful.

we tried to keep our minds off all of this over the weekend. we took all the good information we had learned at the prenatal about the health of the baby and me and pretended that the "I" word hadn't even been mentioned. friday afternoon i walked about 5 miles (from home to the coop). that night we had a nice, relaxing evening. i took a long bath and over the night had lots of contractions. we took a short hike at frontenac state park on saturday. i lost part of my mucus plug right before our hike (happy birthday, autumn! here's some mucus!). sunday morning, i lost even more. we went to the mall of america sunday afternoon to do some more walking...and i went for some much needed pampering at the aveda salon there.

this morning, we had our prenatal. we saw john today, the one male midwife and one of our favorites both with this pregnancy and with ella. we came up with a list of questions and concerns and spoke very honestly with him. he was very supportive, honest, and we also felt, realistic. he didn't feel that induction was indicated, given all the information we have at this point. what's more, he did a check and found that i am 50-60% effaced, 1-2 cm dilated. what's MORE, he did a guesstimate of the baby's size - about 8 lbs at this point. this backed-up what our other favorite midwife, jill, said a couple weeks ago - around 7 lbs - since babes gain about a half pound to a pound a week at this stage. (btw, the midwife who wanted to induce for 'big baby' did no checks for size at all). so, we got to go home without any fears of a pending induction and knowing that the baby and i are still healthy.

john did say that if something were to happen in the next week that indicated a change in my health or that of the baby, that they would want to get labor going right away. we were happy to hear this as we certainly don't want to put our child at risk. we would have gone in for a c-section today if it meant a healthy baby. BUT, knowing how hard the induction was on me and ella last time, we didn't want to induce or accept other interventions without reason.

anyway, the last two weeks have been very stressful for us. today's prenatal was such a relief. we have another on thursday, and again on monday, if the baby doesn't come before then.

ps. i lost 3 lbs between last week and this week. john said this was 'good' , which was also confusing since the previous week karin had commented that it was good that i had gained a pound. anyway, i got home and looked in one of our birth books...and low and behold, among the early labor signs (like losing the mucus plug) was a maternal weight loss of 3-4 lbs within 2-3 days of birth. woo hoo!

Hey mommas. Just checking in quick before I am off to exercise and then start another school day. It is *freezing*in here this morning....brrrr. Today is mine and Sonny's 9 year wedding anniversary; cannot believe it has been that many years (well, maybe on second thought, I can ). We don't have anything planned for the day, really, as there is so much going on around here all the time, but we do leave for Quebec next Thursday.

Mamar~ I second Sara: GO MOMMA, GO!! With the way things sound, I bet that little babe of yours will be here before you even go in for your next appt.! Did your midwives ever talk to you about taking evening primrose oil? I used that with Nygel and I really think it got things moving.

Battymom and Sara~ Hooray for fun nights out!

Willow~ Sorry about the clothes thing. That sucks.

Moon~ Yet another "go momma, go! " to you!!

Okay, off to sweat and then teach. Have a good day mommas!

Happy anniversary kdmw!!

Mamar--I'm glad you got some reassurance from the male midwife. Reading your story is making me glad I'll be seeing the same two midwives throughout the rest of my pregnancy. I hope your babe comes soon on his/her own so you can avoid the I word without fighting the CNM's/ob's.

Mpls_momma--I'm definitely interested in the wool soaker pattern. Will you be coming to the knitting lessons or SG next Sat? I've got a babe 4/9th's of the way here--does that make me a momma with a positive or negative number of kids? I'm planning to c/d, so any cool knitting tricks I can learn to go along with that would be great. Even if you already knit, coming to the lessons just to be around other knitters sounds like a good plan.

mpls_momma: I do have a soaker pattern that I really love. It's the Little Turtle Knits pattern (near the bottom of the page I linked to). Fast and easy. I do knit socks, as well. It's a terrible addiction! Do come to SG and knit with us!

kdmw: Happy Anniversary! 9 years seems like such a long time until you're with someone that long, and then it's like "But I just met you yesterday!" (DH and I have been together almost 8 yrs & I still can't believe it!)

Will: I'd be at DH if I were in your shoes. What a toad. (Guessing the D in DH didn't mean "dear" that day...) Hope you get some clothes that fit soon.

Moon: Yes, gnawing on furniture. With her one tooth. :LOL

Poor babe's conked on my lap again - the only place she'll sleep lately. How the heck do I finish the batch of bread dough rising now? Aagh! Will figure it out, I guess.
