I have been making smoothies for breakfast, but I'd like some ideas for adding in omega-3s and some more protein.

Currently we use yogurt, frozen strawberries, bananas and a bit of honey. Would a raw egg yolk or two change the taste significantly? Or some flax-seen oil?

I put raw egg yolk in my kefir smoothies and I don't notice any taste difference at all.

No, I've added both before, and it's still good, maybe a richer taste even. Try it!

I use flax oil and clo all the time. I don't mind it, but dh asks that I pour his out before I add them. Sigh. At least he's drinking kefir.

I really love raw egg yolks in my smoothies--i find that it makes them thicker and almost foamier (sp?) then with out. I especially like the eggs in a smoothie with peaches--yum!

This morning's smoothie was yogurt, frozen peaches, a banana, a little honey and three egg yolks. It was awesome! I think it's my favorite one yet! I really think the egg added to it without making it taste funky. I'm going to get some flax oil and try adding that next time, too.

DD doesn't always eat breakfast, but she will always have some smoomie.

I tried this. Once. No one would drink it, lol! Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

yes, I thought it would make a nice change, but the looks I got were... let's just say it's a good thing they were looks and not words!

I really like to add coconut oil to my smoothies. I find that it holds me for a long time, and it keeps my weight stable (well, except for right now, as I'm almost 40 weeks preggo.)

Well, I tried it with flax oil and it really changed the taste too much. But the coconut oil! Yum! It really adds a nice flavor, I think. Thanks for the suggestion, gardenmommy!

Raw chocolate is yummy to add, too. It comes in hard little "nibs" (what it says on the package) and needs to be powdered a little first. It's great with a banana and coconut oil. Vanillia adds a nice touch to smoothies. Raw egg yokes are a must in my smoothies. Try it!
