Hi mamas,

I really need some help finding snacks I can have that are protein and or veggie. Carrots and hummus is one I've thought of. The only problem is I can't have corn and soy, so that limits things a little bit (most beef jerky). Please help I'm so hungry! I know there is others out there that have the same problem. I need to go shopping today.

Cut up veggies with dip (cream cheese or sour cream with herbs), cheese, cheese sticks, hard boiled eggs, mini egg quiches (done in a muffin cup), nuts (almonds, pistachios), pumpkin seeds, pickles, cottage cheese, berries (high in fiber, so that helps to process some of the carbs), low sugar or "natural" peanut butter with celery sticks, greek yogurt (fantastic with a bit of pumpkin pie spice and 1/3 cup of canned pumpkin mixed in).

Oh, and I'm not supposed to have nuts and am sensitive to dairy. LOL! It's bad.

Great ideas. I may just have to eat dairy (I don't seem as affected while pregnant which is good). Mmmmm.... onion dip.

Why aren't you supposed to have nuts?

kale and veggie chips, you can buy or dehydrate them yourself. They travel well and "feel" more like a carb snack so that might be a nice change up.

berries and cantalope are the lowest carb fruits (iirc) so maybe toss those in now and then for some variety. If you eat them with cheese or even a cream cheese dip it will help balance the carbs with some protein.

Is there "fake" soy sauce? I make venison jerky and it's super easy. If you have a way to substitute the soy sauce you could make your own jerky.

I'll keep thinking.

splath, mini egg quiches are a really fun idea!

Thanks so much for all the ideas. Yum! I bought some sour cream and made it into onion dip and some yogurt because I already have the pumpkin spices and pumpkin to add. I didn't find veggie chips without corn, but I'm sure trader joe's might have some that I could have if they still sell pirate booty. Oh, and I got cream cheese and string cheese. I'm giving up on keeping dairy out obviously. I bought a whole bunch of veggies to dip with.

We have lots of eggs from the chickens so I can make all kinds of things with them. I can make fritata's too. Mmmm.... I feel so much better that I have options now.

Let me know of anymore ideas you all may have. I'm sure I will get sick of some of these and have to rotate.

If you can do seeds (rather than nuts), then sesame seed butter is yummy, too (sunbutter), with apples or celery sticks.
Deviled eggs are a good snack, too.

Love this thread!!!!! I'm trying the pumpking yogurt tomorrow! I also just found gaucamole humus at trader Joe's which is amazing, but maybe has less protein than full on humus, so I just used cut up jicama and carrots. Yum!!!

I gave up on dairy free too and stopped being a vegetarian when I was diagnosed with GDM with DD.

Cinnamon has seemed to decrease my sugars a bit(I'm only on day 2) I've been sprinkling it in tea and on a 1/2 bagel with crm chz. Normally the bagel would up my sugars, but I was fine. maybe it was the cinnamon, we'll see.

No soy nuts unfortunately.

Yum deviled eggs. I had a couple at the organic store yesterday. I'm totally going to make some. Mmmm....

Tried the pumpkin yogurt thing and I think my ratios were off, it didn't turn out so well. I will try again later though.

Yeah, I forgot to put cinnamon on my fruit this morning. I used to eat french toast all the time and the cinnamon definitely helped with feeling lows.

Guacamole hummus sounds yummy. I think I'll make some guac and put it in the hummus. Mmmm....

I tried that pumpkin yogurt today...I LOVE IT!!!! I am a major fan of all things pumpkin, and all things yogurt...don't know why I'd never thought of combining the two before! I did about 1 c. yogurt to 1/2 c. pumpkin, with some cinnamon. And, since I'm not glucose intolerant, I added a smidge of organic Grade B maple syrup.
