We like www.preschoolians.com, they are a little expensive but excellant service. They are shoes you can throw in the washer/dryer and still look like new.

Stride Rite makes great products, especially for one year olds. They have beginning-to-walk shoes that are very flexible and yet provide toddlers the support they need to walk and keep their soles protected from road debris, pebbles, etc. They also come in a variety of widths. When my dd was one, she was a 5.5 XXX wide! You can get them online. Have your child's shoe size done professionally, though, to find out if you need wide or extra wide.

I love preschoolians also. They are DS's favorite shoes & the pull on style is great. For warm snow boots I am thinking of trying some from lands end that open really wide & for this year have him wear them over his shoes. Dunno if that will work tho!

We bought these soft leather shoes called Robeez. My son loves his. I think I paid around $25. They have a teddy bear on them and seem to be very comfortable. We later bought him some traditional "hard" shoes, but he didn't like him. Robeez also makes boots.

I bought them at Stride Rite, but have seen them at Nordstrom's as well. I'm sure they're available online. Size is by months, such as 6-12 months.

http://store.nordstrom.com/category/...384292~2384468

Bobux is a similar brand.

I also find some cute faux-baby-Ugg boots at Children's Place. I think they were $15 or so.

I've been happy with both Pitter Paws shoes and Robeez for DD but plan to get some Preschoolians when she's more steady on her feet for outside wear.

After much research, I also have my eye on some new boots from Land's End - listed as Waterproof Snow Boots - smallest size is a 5, removable Thermolite liner, good for rain or snow so I reckon it will be very versatile. Plus it has a nylon gaiter on the top. You can find it on www.landsend.com under girls or boys shoe store (toddler). They are $29.50

My ds is almost 2, but he wears robeez, stride rites and converse allstars (chuck taylors). The allstars sneakers are really cute and flexible. You mentioned sneakers, so I thought of them.

The problem I've found with Robeez in the winter is that there is only a very thin layer of leather between their feet and the ground; great in summer but not nearly warm enough in our cold winters. That's why I prefer the Soft Stars; they are made with sheepskin and therefore lined with sheep's fleece.

We like Robeez, Converse and Nowa Li's. I looked at STride Rite but the soles were so stiff on all their shoes. Converse chuck Taylors are the softest soled sneakers I've found. His favs are the Nowa Li's moccasins. A sock with a leather bottom. We live in California, but he wears them outside as long as it's not pouring rain. They are fine for playground and a little heavier in the sole than robeez.

www.nowali.com

We just ordered the firetruck ones but there are cute stripes and cars as well.

Would anyone be interested in a mini co-op for Catch Me If You Can prechoolians?

All we would need would be 4 pairs, here is the chart on the site:
2 Pairs 20% Discount very-flexible-2-pairs
3 Pairs 30% Discount very-flexible-3-pairs
4 Pairs 40% Discount very-flexible-4-pairs

What do you think?

If there is interest I will post in TP.

hey, I just ordered 4 of those See You Laters & he said they are going fast. I've only gotten the Walking Barefoot style before, but if I like these, I'm going to order more in larger sizes while they are still around, so I might be in on a group buy if there is still interest next week.

I liked robeez for the summer and until she became a little more stable walker. Now, she has the natural motion system line of stride rites. I love them and they are very flexible. Nordstrom actually has better prices of them than the actual stride rite store does! I also saw some merrells there that were very flexible also!

ETA: and don't forget....Robeez has booties now also!

I would be interested in a preschoolians co-op if it could include shoes from the "I'm Walking Barefoot" line. Where is the information about bulk orders on their site? I couldn't find it.

I was going to do it as a regular order through them with a fast co-op, just the four pairs of shoes. I think it would be only the Catch Me If You Can or See You Laters, they are the only ones on the site with the link. They are probably selling very fast, so I am going to post on the TP.

DD's first hard-soled walking shoes (after Robeez) were leather t-straps from Stride Rite. I thought they were plenty flexible enough and liked that the edges of the soles were rounded which helps to prevent tripping and they come in wide widths.

For sneakers I got Keds in a style called Scooter. This was when she was about 15 months old though...the soles were a little stiffer than I would have liked but she had been walking for a few months by then and could handle it. I liked them because they can be tossed in the wash, have a padded collar at the ankle, come in wide widths and are CUTE!

We are not doing hard soled shoes for awhile. But when DD has to go out we put Robeez on her little feet. The 6-12 mo lasted her a long time and we're only on our second pair (now 12-18 mo). I think they are made so well and really keep the socks from coming off. And I like the fact that they are soft soled because from what I've learned its best to hold off on hard soled shoes until they got a good grasp on walking.
