a few weeks ago my son was very congested and had a runny nose. i think now it was a cold but he is still stuffed up with no productive runny nose. he just sounds stuffy mostly at night. we've been running a humidifier but it seems to be harming more than helping in the sense that the stuffy gets worse at night. i understand the lying down aspect but even before he lays down for the night i can tell he's having a hard time breathing thru his nose. what are options for decongestants or if any one has any other suggestions... i appreciate it! the snoring can't be good for his passages and sinuses.

heatory, If your son is in a crib you can elevate one side of the mattress from underneath with a pillow or wedge; this helps drainage while sleeping. Aspirating the Nares with a bulb and/or saline solution will also loosen and remove mucous. A warm mist humidifier run (I keep mine at 65-75%) at night will help too.

Snoring can be indicative of inflamed tonsils and/or adenoids so if that continues, you will want to have him examined. Best wishes for you and your son.

dd has the same problem and she is getting ready to go to an ENT because unfortunately she does have very inflamed tonsils/adenoids. We've been putting it off for a while because she is so young (2.5) but her ped feels it's time to get her evaluated more.

I second the humidifier, and I put blankets/pillows under the mattress to 'prop' dd up - that helps some. Her and I co-sleep so yes that means I'm propped up too but after a few nights I got used to it.
