Amazing how the empowerment of women to act independently carries such tremendous promise, even in the face of world hunger.

So does anyone want to explain to me why only $5 from each $29.95 locket sold is going to the United Nations World Food Program???

Why is it only 5$???
:

Why not donate directly to the WFP instead:

im not sure? but the idea is good

a 16ct gold locket for 30.00 is a great deal. even better that 5.00 of that goes to the WFP.
im sure is cost some money to make

which also makes me wonder, who is making it? where is the gold coming from?

i still think that 5 dollars is too little from the purchase price.

Marie Claire magazine + empowerment?

Does not compute.

It's a PR thing.
Lovebug, I think it was really sweet of you to post this link. However I have to agree with the PP - Why only $5, the PR thing, & gold mining involves a lot of child labor typically.
I think that its awesome that MarieClaire is bringing this to attention of 'modern' women, and that a lot of them will read the magazine and buy a locket. $5 is still $5 for food, and I doubt that starving women with her babies will care where it came from.
I think the only GREAT thing that could come of this is some women read, buy a locket, do more research and decide to help even more monetarily or with their time.
I suspect though, most women will buy a locket and write it off as their good deed for the year ):

AH, I missed the "buy some shit from us" pitch at the end. Somehow I should not be surprised.
