Okay, it seems my whole life I've been congested. I have to spit (gross, I know) my phlegm up every morning. When I get any sort of cold, it seems to last forever. Oh, and while my whole family might be exposed to a cold, I always get it the worst. It's impossible for me to sleep with my mouth closed. I'm always clearing my throat.

I am just so sick and tired of it! I probably should cut out dairy products. I've done that once before and my problem lessened but didn't go away. Oh, and strangely, soy milk seems to have the same effect as cow's milk on my throat. On dairy, I just need to bite the bullet.

I've read information here and there about post-nasal drip and deviated septum. If I had insurance, I'd go and have it checked out. If I get desperate enough (and I just might because pregnancy has left me more congested than ever), I'll come out of pocket to see a specialist.

Anyway, does anyone or has anyone had this problem? What can I try--any therapy or vitamin or herb that might be beneficial? Please help--I'm really soooo tired of this.

TIA

A few thoughts:

Well, you already know you should cut out dairy and soy. You might want to experiment with goat milk- it may have the same effect as cow's milk or you might tolerate it well. It works well for me, but lots of people with cow's milk allergies also can't handle goat milk.

Have you tried a neti pot? It's a special pot to pour a saline solution through your nasal passages- it cleans everything out and then there's less mucus to drip down your throat during the night.

Do you get regular chiropractic care? I know that, when I get a cold, I NEED the chiro more often, and getting adjusted really helps my congestion.

Ruthla, thanks for your response. I haven't had any dairy today (so hard for me!), and already the problem is much improved. I also went online and I'm going to buy a neti pot--thanks for the recommendation. I hadn't considered a chiro. If things don't improve after cutting dairy and using the neti, I'll definitely make an appt.

Try drinking 2 Tablespoons apple cider vinegar with hot water and honey to taste. This has helped me when I have a cold and also raw garlic.
