we moved here about 4 months ago from seattle-we live in gv (henderson)
i like it so far, very different from seattle but change is good.

we've enjoyed the palm trees, parks,swimming pools, sunshine, nice people and all the activities for anna. i also like drives to the desert, mt. charleston and california.
the culture took a while for us to get used to. when we moved into our new house the realator told us it was "older" as it was built in 1997 (??????)
our previous house in seattle was built in 1910 (all 800 sq feet of it)
as far as bfing goes i haven't recieved much flack although a few people have inquired about my bfing my daughter (she's 7 mo old). you should've seen the look on one woman's face when i mentioned that i nursed anna until she was 2 1/2. so those few aspects have kinda weired me out. still, it has been fun and exciting living here.

thank you both for your positive attitudes. i too, have had to learn that we can make the best of it and take advantage of the resources available here.
while i think henderson is very nice (we live in gv ranch) we are looking to buy a home in Boulder City. it has a nice, mellow small town feel to it-no casinos.I love the old historic homes-they also have a wonderful community garden and yoga studio there. we have 6 more months left on our lease so i am so excited to finally own our own home.
i miss seattle terribly-yes it was definately more our "nitch"-i'm a dyed-in-the-wool liberal, up to now we always lived in funky, progressive neighborhoods, and i would just as soon spend a dreary day reading or walking in the rain than shopping on the strip.
but the economy crashed, my husband was laid off and that "progressive" seattle lifestyle comes with a price. we could have never owned our own home in seattle-unless i wanted to go back to work full-time and put our kids in daycare-even then the most house we could afford would be in a crime infested ghetto, not fremont or admiral.
we now have the resources to travel (we're hoping to buy a van in the next year and travel up and down the w. coast visiting friends and festival-hopping) i can also stay home and homeschool my children. we might actually have a retirement and a college fund for our kids.
i have only been here for 4 months and it has been difficult sometimes. i really don't fit in very well where i live and i'm finally beginning to meet some other mamas (online-hopefully in person) so i know there are other like-minded people here.
i'll stop rambling on now....
