to have a successful UC. Normally I'd just do all the research myself but I'm getting pretty far into this pregnancy and due to recent "issues" am considering UC.

This will be my third baby, second VBAC. I am diabetic but well controlled and followed by an endocrinologist and an OB (just to make sure everything is going well). My OB is totally cool with the fact that I plan on birthing at home though I doubt I'd mention the UC thing to him.

So, give me the run down. The must knows, must haves and DO NOTs.

Actually, my advice is to really do the research now. Only then will you be able to make the kind of decision you can be comfortable with.

You might like to start by looking at the resource list at the top of this forum.

In my experience, and in the wisdom of others on this forum, doing the research yourself is essential part of the decision-making process. Then.. bring all your questions and fears and revelations to us! We all just loooove to talk about birthing babies.

Good luck!

LOL I just re-read my post and it does sound funny. I wasn't meaning that I don't want to do the research myself but more that I was wanting to weed out the info. I'm totally comfortable actually birthing the baby, its all the stuff that comes after that I'm not sure about. I know I'll be fine with it when the time comes but at this point I'm collecting info

It's so hard to give "essential" advise when you don't know where someone is starting from, what they already know, and what their misconceptions are. Do you have any specific questions maybe we could start with?

Supplies. What do I need to have on hand? What are the most important things to know and do? I'm starting from scratch.

Well, you need something to cut the cord and clamp it. If you have had other homebirths, most of the stuff is similar-it's just that you gather everything together-i.e., you want to get a birth tub if you want to labor/give birth in the water and you might also want a plastic drop cloth or old shower curtain to put on the floor or under some old sheets on your bed.

You might want some herbs to stop bleeding if that might be a problem, but the most popular solution to that is to eat some of the placenta (yuck!). I'm hoping I don't need to do that, but of course it will be there if I do need it.

You might also want some homeopathic remedies or herbs on hand to help you during labor, but I wouldn't know which ones since I'm not doing that personally.
