So I just got back from my 40-wk mw appointment. She asked how I'd been feeling, and I mentioned how I'd had a bad night. Woke up several times with "moderate" period-like cramps/achiness and back pain. Told them that I wasn't have contractions, but that they were very uncomfortable. The mw had a student mw with her today & the both looked at each other and told me that those WERE contractions. Really?? I was waiting for the tightness of the BH. They asked if my uterus was tight, but I didn't know. I also have no idea how far apart they were, probably b/c I fell asleep between them I'm sure.

So now the good news. Both think I'll deliver within the week & decided to strip my membranes to see if it would speed things up. The student mw did one strip & then the nurse mw did another. Stats: 2 cm dialated; 75% effaced, 0 station. Presently crampy so we'll see.

Send good labor vibes.

Feel your tummy with fingertips when you are crampy and having the pain, you will feel your uterus get hard and solid as it contracts. It's kinda cool-except for the whole achy part.

A double stripping huh? Two for one woohoo! I bet things get rolling for you very soon. Take a nap if you can at all stand it-you'll be needing the energy!

Just an update. Ctx tapered off to about 1/hr through the night. MW recommended a glass of wine, bath & Benadryl before be so I'd get a good night's sleep. Lost my mucus plug this morning (wow, when you see that you know what it is), and ctxs are picking up again. So, we'll see...

Haha! I did the same last week! "No, not contractions, just cramps ..." I've miscarried before and had interesting reactions to Sudafed, so I was sure I knew what contractions feel like.

And I too slept through them so often I didn't time them, which was in itself a clue (that we were warming up but not hitting intense labor yet).

I hope your prediction is more solid than mine though - my midwife (20 years of experience) said last Monday she'd be really surprised if I didn't deliver within a week. Within a week everything had stopped and I was making trips out of town, and spending part days at work ... now nothing!

I was thinking I'd rather just wait, it's just 37 weeks now, it'll happen when it happens ... but yeah at points I wish my MW were more aggressive about getting things moving. We got VERY ready to have a baby at any minute and now we're wondering if it'll be another 3 weeks! I empathize more with the women who choose outright induction ... the waiting is tough!
