This question runs through my mind more times a day then I would like to report. We don't eat American Cheese here (mainly I'm vegan, DD just got over a dairy allergy in the last 3 or so months), but our dog does -- she is on medication daily and we find this to be a great way to give it to her. So, we actually call it dog cheese :LOL . So, DD eats some dairy -- yogurt, pizza, etc.....one day she asked for "Maggie cheese" -- I thought, okay, one bite won't kill her....she is now obessed with "Maggie cheese" -- 3-4 slices a day.....I really don't like to restrict food she request as we have "if it is in the house, it is healthy, so go ahead and decide what you eat policy (her only restrictions are my coffee and her dad's wine : .....but American Cheese??? What is in that stuff? Should I change my dog's eight year tradition of a slice of cheese at night? I should mention here that we buy the white (not orange) cheese, if that makes a difference and that I looked in WF and no luck, they don't sell any --- I wonder why? Could it be that it's some weird concoction made from chemicals to look and taste good...that's my worry.

I can't really help you decide if american cheese is healthy...IMO it's not cheese, and is scarcely even food. But I do have an idea...would your dog eat real cheese? You could give the dog her medicine with that, and then it wouldn't be an issue. Just a thought.

Thanks for that link! I've printed it out and will study it later. We have thought about getting the dog real cheese, it is an expense issue -- I just can't reason spending that for my dog's nightly treat, but if it has to be it has to be. Where do they keep this Horizon organic stuff???? I'll need to ask at WF. As always, you mamas rock!
