We just bought a house and it already has plants in the garden. Some I know, some I don't. The weird one is tall, long stemmed about two inches thick. Has flowers sticking out of the top like a bottle brush. I have a jpeg but can't seem to post it.

Any ideas? Thanks

Close, but the flowers are really tiny. It really does look like a skimpy bristled bottle brush....

Forgot to add, it has big broad green heart shaped leaves at the bottom of the stem.

Allium? Some have thin leaves, but others have wider ones.

Interesting mystery. To post the picture you will have to upload it to photobucket or another free photo hosting website. Then you post a link to it here.

What color are the flowers? Is it in bloom now? About how tall is it, 2 feet, 3 feet, etc.?

Possibly Liatris...also known as "bottle brush flower" or "blazing star". Hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like it may be Liatris a bit past its prime.

Thanks!!!!!!!

Is there any reason to actually keep it? I don't really think its very attractive, if you see what I mean....

If you don't like it than don't keep it. If your not sure, keep it around for this year and see what it looks like during it's whole life cycle than decide next fall or spring if you want to get rid of it or not.
