Is there any medical condition that has this effect on the body: no tolerance for any medication, drugs, or certain foods, possibly have to do with metabolism issues? I have this ball of pressure (feels like a knot) right under my heart that presses so hard it makes me dizzy, and my stomach muscles spasm in and out to compensate for the pressure. This started with intolerance to alcohol, then to every other thing, even antibiotics. I ask because I have a terrible sinus infection and swollen lymph node under my right ea, with an awful sore throat. The doctor prescribed amoxicillin, but every time I take it I get extremely weak, dizzy, and feel as if I'm going to pass out. My heart feels like it's beating slowly, and the veins in my hands and legs dilate. So I stopped taking it. I am celiac, so everyone knows, and I just found out that amoxicllin is notorious for containing gluten, so that is a possibility...but it doesn't explain the reactions to EVERYTHING. Perhaps yeast?

I think that you can find other more effective antibiotics for sinus infections and that do not contain gluten, but you dr. has to be willing to work with you. I would definitely keep your dr. informed of the side effects because they are a concern. You could also talk to your pharmacist to find some common medications used to treat your symptoms, and see if you dr. thinks any would be appropriate.

Is the gluten in the starch binders of the antibiotic? My nurse-practitioner was able to find a variety for me that was effective for a past infection and did not contain the starch, but it was very potent and had a side effect of depression (I was so happy to get off that when I finish the cycle because it effected my mood). If I can find my card with its name, I will post it.

Thanks- I did call my doctors office and they prescribed me a different antibiotic and I will see how that works. I'm terrified to take it though for fear that my reaction might get so severe that I might pass out..but I guess I'll have to try since my infection has come back full force and I feel awful. I'm going to research antibiotics that do not contain gluten.

Well, it seems I am reacting to EVERY antibiotic prescribed. Each time the reaction is the same: I get really dizzy, start shaking, get really weak, feel like I'm going to faint, and start having strange thoughts. This is especially strong with amoxicillin, although with zithromax (the other antibiotic) it made my heart race and then my veins dilated and there was strong pulsing in my fingertips-along with all the other issues I constantly deal with. Ugh. Now my sinus infection is back full force plus a swollen throat and swollen lymph nodes. I am in so much pain and I don't know what to do. I cannot deal with those reactions-seriously each one is worse and I don't want to end up with a crazy psychotic reaction, that's all I need right now is to be hospitalized. I've never gotten through a sinus infection w/o antibiotics before. I think I may need to see a specialist about why I am reacting to these meds. Background is I have been reacting to more and more stuff since I've been chronically ill, but this is really scary because if I can't take antibiotics, what happens if I get really sick and have to be in the hospital and they can't give me meds because of the reactions? Ugh. I wonder if any doctor will take the time to find out why I am reacting to this.

In all honesty it sounds to me like you have used too much medicine incl. abx in your life and your body is reacting.

Perhaps it's time to look at a more natural way of healing? Just a suggestion.

You're right...so what's a good natural way to clear out a sinus infection? I've heard of a saline rinse with garlic, or even cayenne pepper...any ideas?
