The Social Security trustees’ report (available on the Social Security Administration’s Web site) shows that the program can pay every penny of benefits through the year 2042, with no changes whatsoever.

It works. Despite generations of money-grubbers foretelling doom and destruction, over and over again.

Don't gut it, cut it, or throw it to the Wall Street sharks.

Yup.

What I find hilarious about Bush's sudden gloom and doom over Social Security in the guise of funneling more money to his weathly cronies in the financial industry, is this image in my head of Clinton talking over and over and over again about using the budget surplus to make sure that SS was financially healthy.

Oh, no, the Republicans couldn't do that. Much better to fritter it away on a ludicrous tax cut for the wealth and for a disastrous war to benefit his rich cronies in the warmongering and oil industries. But to now be crying that SS is in financial trouble is the height of hypocrisy.
