I used to think my child had to have coverings on her feet no matter what. I was really wigged out if her feet were bare. So she wore her Robeez all the time. That was okay in Boston as it got hot but not like here in KS. So now I am rethinking the feet covering thing. She will only be 6months in June so she wont be walking etc. Now, I look at this LO feet and think I hate to wear shoes or sock so why would she want to? What is the general consensus? Socks? Robeez? Or free little feet?

I used to be paranoid about getting comments from strangers about DD not being dressed appropriately. Maybe I read too much MDC, haha. DD is just such a sweaty little creature, I've really relaxed on the socks (and sweater and hat) issue. I vote if baby is comfortable that's all that matters, socks or no socks. Plus I just love seeing her little bare baby feets.

I live in a place that can easily reach lows of -25 in the winter, and EVERYONE has those silly down filled "bags" that fit in the carseats. I never had one. I would preheat the car, and bring a blanket. I never went further from the car to the door, so I never saw the purpose of using them. Yet I still see people using them in above 0 degree weather. Whenever people comment I just say "it's warm in the car". And I always get that look like they KNOW I'm right, but afraid to admit it (because their kids are all bundled up and probably warmer than need be). haha

Edit: Whoops... my husband just reminded me. I do have one (bought it used for $5), but I only used it a couple times when out for short walks with the dog (carseat/stroller attachment thingy). What I meant to say that I never used one to go shopping (or anywhere car related). He usually walked the dog in the winter, so I'd forgotten that I had one... but I digress... (back on topic).

The same goes for shoes. If I'm carrying my daughter in a sling, I don't even bother with shoes. And if it's a nice warm day, I forget about socks as well.

I definitely vote free little feet... unless of course they're going to be touching ground.

bare feet all the way. i sometimes bring along socks or soft-soled shoes if we're going to be in a heavily air conditioned environment since we don't have a/c and thus it feels totally freezing for us when we walk into a grocery store or target or wherever. but for the most part in warm weather baby's feet are bare. heck i'm lucky if i can keep anything on my son's feet and he's 3.5 LOL the soles of his feet are like leather, he runs outside on the gravel drive like it's squishy grass, and leaves shoes in every corner of the yard as soon as i turn my head

i'm rather partial to bare feet myself.

It's insanely hot and humid here in the summer. I have booties and socks, but I don't expect to use them unless we're going somewhere chilly (like the grocery store). They are really more for show. I have had one baby who was always hot (born in the snow) and one who was always cold (born in the heat), so I'm prepared either way.

Bare feet! It's not insanely hot here (CO) but I've never put socks on my babies in the summer. I just dress them like I dress myself and I don't touch a pair of socks for months.

I have a July baby and for the most part her feet were bare. The socks never stayed on anyways, and Size 1 infant shoes didn't even fit until she was six months old. I usually had a lightweight blanket with me though that I could throw over her if we went someplace a little chilly.

This year we will probably be doing more shoes and socks because I am pretty sure she will be walking by summer.

I'm in Kansas, and there is no way my dd would have socks on her feet in the summer, unless I was putting on her little shoes (and that's only when I know she's going to be walking around outside). During the winter it was socks and robeez, and now it's freedom feet! I can't stand having socks and shoes on in the sweltering summer, so the most I wear is sandals.

What about for a May baby for the newborn age and 1-2 mo?

You mean outside, right? Outside, I would put socks on baby's feet if it's cold enough that I need socks on MY feet. If it's warm enough for me to be barefoot, it's warm enough for baby too-- if baby is over about 8 pounds and healthy.

Inside? My kids NEVER wore socks inside as babies. It drove me insane when they would fall off and get lost and I'd have mismatched pairs.

Baby feet are so beautiful. The less they're covered, the better! I vote bare feet all the way!

edited to add - so long as it's warm. You're talking summer, right? If I'm wanting sandals, I'd keep baby's feet bare. If I'm wanting socks and regular shoes, I'd put something on the baby's feet too.

Yep, talking summer.. I hate shoes and very rarely where them and kinda dread making her wear them.. So no socks or Robeez for her!!! Right now she is barefoot asleep in bed..What a great feeling! Her sister is a barefoot kid too. Now for it to actually get that warm would be great!

My 6 month old is currently sockless and as long as it stays above 60 she'll stay that way. I love being barefoot and if I'm not wearing socks I don't put them on her. It drives my mom insane though.

My May baby (oh my god! she's almost a year old!
goes without socks whenever it is warm. She tends towards 'running hot' just like my husband so she is actually usually closer to naked than I am in general because she gets very cranky if she's too warm. It's been a hard adjustment for me because I'm always cold.

Bumping this question. This is for my upcoming May baby not last year's May baby BTW

I wouldn't bother getting socks for a May baby. The tiny ones don't kick off blankets as readily and by the time he/she's bigger it'll be warmer.

OTOH, I adore our one pair of footie-pants and baby #2 will be getting tons of those little sets of clothes with a t-shirt, footie-pants, jacket, and hat.

Lina's an August baby and her first month or so was spent in shorts and wrap-t-shirts.
