Hi. I am new around here and I am finding some great info. My DS is 8.5 months old. He nurses 5-6 times per day and gets two meals of solids. My question is this: did any of you introduce soy products (soft tofu) at this age? I am looking for a meat alternative as well as another protein source. He currently is getting fruits and veggies and egg yolks. I know that breastmilk is still giving him everything he needs, but he loves his meals and I want to make sure he is getting lots of variety and some fat/protein. Thanks.

I think a little is okay, but I would be cautious about feeding alot of soy to a baby. Check out www.soyinfo.com There has been some research linking high amounts of soy to potential health problems. I would say this applies even more so to babies since they are smaller and their digestion hasn't matured yet. On a more positive note: my dh and I are vegans, so is our dd, she's 9 mo. old now- so she eats alot of what we eat, she's tried little bits of tempeh and veggie burger, small bites of granola cereal with soymilk; we've had no problems, but we do give her very, very little. Just enough to get a taste. I'm still breastfeeding her, so she gets her nutrition from bm and basically eats solids "just for fun". You might try going to www.vegfamily.com They have alot of great info on feeding babies and various vegan foods, like tofu. According to an article I found there, tofu is okay starting around 7 or 8 months. Hope this helps
Good luck!
