Okay...we've been GIO at the right time for months & no BFP yet. I'm beginning to wonder if we have a problem...

1st: My cycle from when I OV to AF (is that luteal?) only lasts 12 days at the most. Would this indicate a progesterone problem?
2nd: If yes...how do you increase progesterone?
3rd: Are there any herbs or vitamins that can affect fertility? such as St Johns Wort, etc.
4th: Are there any vitamins or herbs that can increase fertility?
5th: How much is too much folic acid? (I have a child with a NTD so I take a lot just in case I concieve)

Thank you in advance for any help

No. 12 days is adequate.

B-vitamins and flax seed oil are good fertility enhancers.

A friend of mine who is a midwife who has a family history of NTD takes almost 3000 mg of folic acid per day as she is currently TTC.

take care

IME progesterone has a whole grey area... while some levels are appropriate for some women they aren't enough for others...
i has a short luteal phase( less then 12 days...) and i have extremely low progesterone.
i lose a pregnancy if my prog isn't above a 20....
i think normal is 15.
my last pregnancy, i had to take progesterone to sustain, and after 3 losses and 2 chemical pregs, i would have set my hair on fire if it meant my baby was going to stay sticky!
so just remember whats normal for someone else may not be normal for you.

if i take more then 1000 of folic acid... it gives me headaches.

3000 mg ? Or 3000 mcg ? To take 3000 mg, wouldn't you be taking a bottle of pills per day?

IMO, go see a doctor and get a "pooled progesterone" test done. You will have 3 blood draws between days 5-9 of your cycle and they pool the results. This is the only way to know for sure if you need progesterone or not, and they will prescribe the correct amount based on your bloodwork.

I take oral Prometrium which is by prescription, and all natural if that is important to you. As far as I know there is no clinical evidence that the various OTC creams that you rub on your wrists or belly or whatever are effective...

Agree w/ pps that a 12 day luteal phase is fine. Note that when I started taking Prometrium my LP length did not change.
