I have this "friend" that is expecting for december. This is a 5th child.

She was expecting twins and lost one. She is obese and has fibromyalgia(sp?). She had the triple screen and the baby may have trisomy-18. Ok, that's alot on ones plate.

BUT, she is smoking heavily, drinking coke non stop. Also, she's informed me they are inducing her over a month early. I asked why. "Because when i go spontaneous it's real fast, we wouldn't make it to the hospital". BUT A MONTH EARLY???? What the heck?

She is determined that she is "term" at that stage. I've shown her documentation that even at 38 weeks induced there's still risk that baby's lungs arent mature. And if indeed this child has health issues, isn't it risky???? All her other kids were low birth weight and didn't gain much until later in infancy.... it's just not sitting right for me....

I'm thinking of cutting contact with her. I can't bear what she's doing to this baby.

It sounds as though she is either a. getting really bad medical care or b. not telling you the truth.

Trisomy 18 is always fatal to babies - if she "thought" the baby had it, really, I think her doctor would require an amnio. Inducing a (potentially) very, very sick baby, a month before the due date?
This does not sound like responsible care by ANY standard.

The smoking and bad nutrition is just irresposible.

She sounds like she's not in a good place emotionally to be having a fifth child. Personally, I probably would not continue the friendship, as people who function that poorly drive me nuts.

That's a little cold of me, I know. But for the love of Pete...

That's how I feel.

She refused the amnio.

I'm starting to wonder it it's all an attention getter..... I find it stressing to hear her go on, and then she sits and puffs away at a cigarette and chugs a pop.

I often hear that there's nothing for the kids to eat in the house.... there was no milk for the baby(a 1 yo), now i know we don't all approve of dairy, but she's by now way an AP parent, because she refused to buy it, since they could qualify fo rWIC, but the forms weren't done yet....

Apparently the house is in very bad disarray.... it's sad those poor babies.
