Hello- I'm currently using mediums (FBs, bum genuis, and wiggle worms covers w/ PF). I'm getting ready to start building my large size stash and have a couple of questions...
1) I've heard that some kiddos skip size large- has this been your experience? I can't imagine that my DS will be potty training in medium diapers- I'm sure he'll grown the rise (that's what happened with his smalls- he's long in the torso).
2) How many large size diapers do you have in your rotation? I want to do laundry every 2-3 days.
3) Has it been your experience that they do not potty train well in FBs? I've heard that some kids don't because they stay dry.
Thanks so much!!

I have small kiddos and they never got into large diapers. I use fitteds and prefolds mostly and my now 3 yo potty trained at 21 months - just took off her diaper one day and climbed up on the toilet and that was that.

That said - if my dd outgrew the rise on the mediums and we had to move to larges, how many I got would depend on how close to potty training we were. If she were older like 2 or so, I probably would only get about a dozen and that would last for 2-3 days. If she were younger and not even THINKING about potty training then I would probably get a couple of dozen. I prefer fitteds/prefolds because of the stay dry factor of pockets - but that's just my preference.

I know we'll be using large diapers, because my son is nowhere close to potty training. Is your child close to trying to use the potty? Is he even considering it? If he's getting close, I'd buy a few larges and keep using any larger mediums. If he's not even considering it, I'd just bite the bullet and get larges.

DS wears larges--he's almost 21mo, but he's been in larges for almost 3 months now, because the mediums were just too short in the rise, even though they fit just fine around the waist and legs. He seems to realize what the potty is for, but just has no interest in using it himself! We use mostly fleece pockets, but even when he's wearing a cover and a contour dipe, being wet/poopy doesn't seem to bother him at all, so I'm not sure I'd blame it on the fleece "stay dry" factor.

My 18 mo fits into larges. Some fit great in the waist, others are a bit big still. She still barely fits into the mediums and petites. She's on the last snap for the legs, 2nd to last on the waist.

Plus, they have a great resale value, so why not?

I have 20 pockets and wash every three days. We don't use them overnight, just a disposable.

My 14 month old is in Large Swaddlebees fitteds!
: He's on the smallest or medium snaps, but I really can't see these lasting until he PLs! He's a big, tall guy, and i'm already starting to think about what our next step will be.

My ds started in medium FBs at 4 months, and is still in them at 2.5 years, 30 pounds! The rise is fine and he is tall, and we have at least one snap left. For a while I thought he was getting too big for them, but then he slimmed down and they fit great again.

I would hold up on the larges until you need them, because you might not!

My DD is 20 mos and wears all larges. I don't forsee going into an XL but the larges seem to be perfect for us. My DD also takes her diaper off whenever its wet pretty much immediately - drives me CRAZY lol - but atleast I know she can tell when she's wet. I use Fuzzy Bunz and Happy Heinys and she has no problem stripping out of those when they're even slightly soiled so I would say no, they know when they are wet even with pockets.
