Ok, so I am doing a strip wash for the first time ever. When I put the diapers in without detergent, and it started agitating, it looked like a freakin bubble bath in there!!!!

Fast forward SIX wash/rinse cycles and it looks exactly the same!!! Huge bubbles! Tons of them! Do I just keep doing this.....just rinsing and rinsing forever?!?! I don't think the bubbles are EVER going to go away!

And, I should mention, I put ALL my diapers in there. Which translates into I have nothing but these sudsy wet-in-the-washer diapers in my house. What should I do? She's nakey now, but um....it's almost bedtime, and my dipes are still soapy!!!

Help! I'm hormonal and pregnant and about to cry!

Do you have any prefolds or anything you can put under her til the diapers are done and drying??
If they are still sudsing, I'd rinse/spin and take out one or two to put in the dryer so Lucy still has one for nighttime, then for the rest, yep, keep rinsing in hot til no more suds
Just sending you some
I would take a few out the was wash after this next cycle & toss them in the dryer so you're ready for the night. Maybe throw in a couple extra so you have some dry ones for the AM too.

As for why they're so sudsy, if you have a lot of dipes in the washer they might not be rinsing well because of overcrowding. Try splitting your 1 load into a couple differnet loads & run the water level on high.

HTH!

No, I don't have any prefolds I can put on her....those are in the wash, too. (We have a smallish stash, it all fits.) I started this at 2:00, I never thought I'd be washing at 9pm still!

I guess I will just take one out and dry it...but after seeing all that soap all over, I just feel so horrible about putting it on her little tushie!

Holly-

They have a lot of swish-room. I have a big washer that holds tons of water, and not a lot of diapers.

Guess I should have done this sometime in the last YEAR we have been CDing!

This really works, right? I mean, the suds WILL go away eventually? Even with serious build-up?

Should I add anything to the wash? Baking soda?
I'm pretty sure vinegar can help dipes rinse more cleanly.

If you have an extra hand towel, you could use that as a diaper...
When I strip my dipes, I use a couple gloops of vinegar and very hot water. It seems to speed up the process.

Good luck, and yes, it will eventually end.
As for a temporary dipe...think of things around your house you wash without fabric softener as a first choice...recieving blankets, tea towels, bath towels are good. Second choice, any of the above even if you have washed it with fabric softener. even a tshirt or something like that would probably work...might dig out some clothes that have been outgrown.

I wigged out the first time I did a strip wash too. lol. You will be so glad that you did it though when you are done.
Ok, she is in bed with some soakers I took out of the new baby's stash, laid into her Aristocrat! I figure I will just change her mid-night, or whenever these freakin diapers are done!

About the vinegar....I read that is not a good idea with hard water...? My water is super hard. (It comes from a well right outside my backdoor.)

I swear, there are more suds now than when I started this!

Thanks Jennifer! I was feeling like a real nimrod for wigging out about this.
I had not IDEA all this was in her diapers! Yuck!

OMG...those first strip washes can be fun, huh?
It will eventually end. You've gotten plenty of good suggestions for make shift diapers, so I won't repeat them, but good luck!

oh boy.....so are you going to stay up until they are done???

Not me....dh! :LOL

They are on #11 now, and I think there is a slight decrease in suds....
Wow! And I was in a panic over my 5 washes! Actually I quit when I was still getting a tiny tiny amount of suds. I was convinced they would never stop. I will be doing it much more often. Maybe once a month or so! Hope you send the end soon.
Wow... I've never done this either and we're starting to get the stinky's, so I guess we're going to have to soon. Guess I'll have to set aside a whole day for it, eh?

I guess I'm a strip virgin!

I wonder if some of the suds are maybe coming from the machine itself, and not just the diapers? I know I've run my machine empty to clean it out, and had plenty of suds just from build-up in the tub! Just a thought!
Good luck Mama - I hope the suds are soon gone! It sounds like this whole mess has you pretty stressed. But hey - at least your DD is sleeping with cloth on her bum! I'm glad you found something for her to wear!

Vinegar increases stink if you have hard water so don't use that if it's really hard like you said. Baking soda helps, but really hot water is the key. Cold or warm doesn't bring out the suds as well. And from now on it might be easier on you to strip them once a month or once every other month. I can't believe how long it's taking you!!

Mia-

Yeah, I was stressed about it...but dd is in her cloth, she's all good. Even if they aren't dry by morning, we don't have to go anywhere, and I don't mind cleaning up a little pee-pee.

I am much more chill now that I put dd to bed, had some food and turned on the air conditioner. I was a hot, sweaty, pregnant, hungry mess with soapy diapers and a crabby toddler. Yuck!
