there's always time! i'm in zone 6, new jersey, and we just passed the last frost date. i'm not planning on transplanting my seedlings until at least next week. you can get starts of summer plants, and you can plant in the summer for fall crops of cooler weather vegetables. just jump in wherever you are!

Zone 6? My friend...unless you're planting peas or other cold weather plants (broc, kale) you have got until after memorial day.

Don't put anything that needs warmth until then. April and May are killers of crops in zome 6. I've seen it snow in May.

I love Quirky's advice to jump in wherever you are! I missed the boat on greens and lettuces this year (different zone), but just waited a couple of weeks and went straight to beans and tomatoes. I will save my broccoli until this fall.

I'm in zone 6. Our low last night was 29 degrees. That was exceptionally, low, as the past few weeks the low has been in the 30's, but my little seedlings are staying safely indoors for at a least another couple of weeks.

It's supposed to warm up considerably in the next few days (we're supposed to see 86 tomorrow!) But this time of year our temps vary wildly--I don't think you're too late at all.

where are you in Zone 6? I know if I was planting this year (im not b.c we are moving soon) you can not put anything out until next month. unless its carrots beets, peas spinach. Even though its going to be warm this weekend most places can still get the temp down to low to support warm loving plants, and may delay their growth when it does get time.

You're totally not too late. I thought I was, too... I'm in zone 6/7 (depending on the map) and I ran around last weekend putting in tomatoes and basil, only to find out that here, you're supposed to wait at least another week. Just go for it!

I'm zone 6b, The only things I have in the ground are some snow peas, spinach, and broccoli which I won't plant again this year (maybe spinach in fall if there is room)

and the following that I will plant more of as the year goes on, onion sets, lettuce, radish.

I do plan on buying already started plants from the greenhouse of tomatoes, peppers and eggplant (not necessarily because of season length but because the ones I buy actually produce whereas the ones I've always started don't produce well)

Will buy more plants from the greenhouse too, but that's only because i can't restrain myself!

Cool, thanks mamas! My mother always had beautiful gardens but she doesn't like to help me with things so I'm on my own. Last year the garden didn't work so I'm trying out some raised bed action this year. I'll be back for advice soon, I'm sure
