I'm not sure if it was an ant or a spider, but I got bitten on the thigh Sunday afternoon. I took off my skirt when I realized I had been bitten (ha, yes I was in my back yard, not a park!) and there was a nasty welt.

It now has 3 distinct parts. There is the welt itself, which is hot, red and hard and about the size of a quarter. The second part is a hot, lighter red rash around the welt, but it's not raised. The third part is a whiteish/skin toned ring around the rash. The welt, rash and ring are all hot and harder than the rest of my leg, and the entire area is about 3 inches across by 2 inches tall.

I'm not sure what bit me, but it itches like crazy and is really tender to the touch, but not painful. Calendula ointment seems to soothe the itching but not the swelling or tenderness. Is there anything else I can put on or take for this?

Thanks!

You could try to take a lot of Vitamin C -- it is suppose to neutralize toxins.

Your description doesn't quite sound like a lyme disease bull's eye, but you may want to look at some pictures to make sure. If you start to feel achy, flu-ish, then you may want to look into that. Most webpages say that the lyme rash doesn't itch -- but mine did! Oh, it drove me crazy!!

I've also heard of several spider bites that have been hot, red and large which the people have gone to a hospital for treatment.

Homeopathic Ledum is good for insect bites.

Hope the rash goes away quickly!
