Something I noticed.

When my ds was less than 6mo his foreskin would do the rosebud looking thing if it was pulled back any at all (noticed because his ped tried to retract ds)
Now that he is 17mo his forskin no longer does the rosebud thing if he pulls on it it just lies flat against the glans.

The reason I am mentioning this is a few people have talked about how the link that was given to show phimosis in a infant disturbed them because there ds's foreskin looked like the second row of pictures of a baby with phimosis. So I am figuring that in the normal development of the penis and foreskin as the child ages it will stop doing the rosebud thing and go to the flat look as normal seperation of the foreskin from the glans starts to take place.

I think the picuters are helpfull but I also think that unless there is a obvious problem with the child urinating we shouldnt worry how it looks.(I know way easier said than done, with all the missinformation out there) Since they are so young there bodies will change so much and if there is a problem it will show up and then can be delt with at that time. As long as we clean properly(wipe it off like a finger, let them soak in a tub every once in awhile) and it is never forcably retracted by anyone, nature will take care of it, and it will function as nature intended.

I just thought I would put this out there since it has stayed on my mind for so long.

I agree. Its hard not to worry but there is nothing that can go wrong with a foreskin (that I know of, anyway) that is going to KILL your child if you don't amputate NOW.

And really if things are so prone to going wrong with genitals where are all the posts about "my daughter's labia, clitoris, etc...."? I'd bet that there are as many or more problems with girls but since there is no idea that cutting things off is the answer there is less worry about it.

I think the amount of worry that goes on over foreskins is just more evidence of how brainwashed we all are that foreskins are inherently defective...even those of us who know better get sucked into it sometimes.

Really I find just not even thinking about it to be the best way. I don't "check" my sons' foreskins the same way I don't look in their ears or up their nose unless there is a problem.

Ditto. I treat it like it's intended to be there like any other part of his body, I don't worry about it, don't think about it, don't check it, nada. Never had any reason to. He's got a great set of lungs, he'll let me know if something is bothering him!
