....I think I regret coming to this forum. Of course I am being ironic....but still.
Now that I know about the mercury I can't make a concious choice and go to a conventional dentist! BUT I can't afford not to either. We have a holistic dentist in town but my insurance does not cover anything that's out of network.
: I am so mad at this stupid system here in USA. My filling came out about 3 weeks ago, and it's starting to hurt and I have only choice of 2 dentist that my insurance will cover. One totally sucks, - the office is NASTY, dirty, dusty, and you have to actually stand up from the chair and walk to a sink to rinse your mouth!!!!!! I could not believe it when they asked me to do that!! I never came back to that one and I will NOT go back.

the other one just told me that I have to wait 2 months before they can take me and then I still have to come for the initial visit before they are willing to fix my filling!!!!! OMG! I actually hung up and cried. I am SO freaking sick of this stupid system!!

Why can't I walk in anywhere I want and pay for one stupid filling and be done with it? I lived in UK for 4 years and have lost filling about 3 times and everytime it happene dI just called a dentist (different one each time) and I was able to come in next day, they fixed my tooth, I paid 50 pounds or whatever they charged me but it was not more then 50 British pounds and I was done!! why is it so difficult here when it comes to medical system? WHY? I am so frustrated I am hurting, I have a newborn baby in my arms and I can't do anything about it!

I wish I was rich and could pay $500 for a holistic dentist, but I can't do that...... it's killing me to know I have to have another amalgam filling put in and expose my newborn to enormous amount of mercury. Sometimes I really wish I did not know, or at least did not care I guess......

Pavlina, can you call the holistic dentist's office back and tell them about your b'feeding babe and your situation. Maybe they'll let you do a payment plan. (?)

It's worth a try. Those other dentists won't give a damn about you or your baby.

Did they really say it'd cost $500?!

No, but that's a number I came up with....guessing of course. They told me the first visit is $150 (she said most insurance will pay that....well, not mine
: ) and then one removal of amalgam filling plus new filling - it's a BIG hole going ovr 2 molars so I am guessing it won't be cheap. Again, everything out of pocket, so it would be at least $300 all together. No way....we can't even do $150 right now......6 months from now? sure, but I needed NOW!

I just wanted to say that I did have my tooth fixed last Wednesday by a mercure-free dentist. It was a great experience and I am glad we spend $200 to do it. He did recommend to go home and pump milk to have a supply for 2 days and then come back and have it fixed and dump the milk for 2 days afterwards but I could not wait any longer. Plus I don't have a pump and it would take me weeks to build that kind of supply.
And my newborn did get a cold day after I had my tooth fixed so I am guessing it was the mercury exposure
. I gave him some homeopathic remedy made from mercury and it took care of it
So I am feeling good about the whole experience.
Also my yeast went CRAZY after the dentist - could that be related?
