okay, i'm looking into curriculum and had a question about sonlight. i love the idea of a reading intense program, but i tend to think language/grammar and math are extremely important as well. for those of you who have used sonlight, would you say core ultra packages do a good job with these subjects? i really am lookiing for a comprehensive curriculum. (not for this year...this is my "research" year)

I liked the phonics/grammar book included with the Sonlight. We didn't do math through them, though, as my daughter definitely needed something hands-on (we went with Math-U-See). I do know they offer SIngapore and Horizons math and I've heard of a lot of people having a good experience with both of those programs.

My friend did the same thing. She uses Sonlight for her Reading, History, Geography and LA, but uses Math-U-See for her math program.
I am still undecided about what to use for math. Plus I ran out of money to spend on curriculum for now!

We use Sonlight as a basis for our curriculum. This is our second year using Sonlight curriculum. We did not purchase a CoreUltra package. We purchased Core 1 and our LA and math through Sonlight though.

Here are the things we are using this year:
Math- Miquon Math First Year Program
History/Geography- Sonlight Level 1, History Pockets Ancient Civilizations (not from Sonlight)
Science- various non-Sonlight resources, Usbourne Book of Knowledge, Living World Encyclopedia
Language Arts- Sonlight LA2, Wordly Wise A
Handwriting- no specific program
Readers- some Sonlight level 2 readers, mostly books from the library
Read-Alouds- Some books from Sonlight and some from the library

We are very pleased with Miquon Math. Dd has been reluctant to do math in the past and she is enthusiastic about this. It is a bright spot in our homeschool day.

This is our first year using Sonlight's LA and Wordly Wise. So far we are satisfied.
