Not for me. My problems though are likely related to close-together pregnancies (DS was 15 mo and still BF when I conceived again). I was sick until just a few weeks ago so 4 weeks to 28 weeks.

On a happier note, raw milk was a lifesaver. It was the one thing I could always have that would settle my stomach.

Speaking from reading, not experience, but isn't morning sickness supposed to be related to liver function? I would say try and drink dandelion and nettles and take milk thistle in some form. Also, try eating a spoonful or two of raw honey (straight or maybe in some warmed raw milk) right before bed so your energy stores do not bottom out over the course of the night.

Report back with successes and failures?

Not to hijack, but I feel that I have the opposite problem... I have no morning sickness and am worried. (I guess worrying comes either way in first pregnancies
) But the problem is that people keep telling me that no morning sickness is related to higher miscarriage rates... is this so? And waaah! Maybe morning sickness is a good thing?

I think my morning sickness, which was rather extended (threw up for the last time 2 weeks before my son was born) was related to liver function. My liver was pretty stressed, I am hopeful that if/when we TTC again, I won't have this issue repeat.

I think the link is the surge in progesterone that was related to nausea (which the liver needs to detoxify, the liver's responsible for stuff our bodies make as well as outside chemicals that come in), if your body doesn't make much, then that's a problem for the pregnancy, but if your liver deals with the extra progesterone just fine, then you'll feel fine and be really busy in approximately 8 months.

I can say that, even with my liver fairly messed up in general, I didn't have a huge amount of morning sickness with my first (I think it was in the typical to low range), and so I think it's possible that I could have none if my liver were actually happy. My mom had none (and here I am
), so I think this is often normal and healthy.

Two common morning sickness underlying issues are either one of, both or all of 1) B6 deficiency, 2) sluggish liver (all the extra circulating hormones of pregnancy get "backlogged" so to speak) or 3) blood sugar imbalance.

All of these issues can be helped with proper digestion.

The simplest, most often overlook recommendation is to chew your food really well (digestion/eases load on liver), eat B-Vitamin rich foods (B6) and start your morning w/the juice of half a lemon before eating or drinking anything else (gentle liver cleansing), eat grounding and nutrient dense foods (to balance blood sugar).

Along with chewing your food well, eat only what you need to satisfy your hunger (do not overeat as this causes more digestive strain). If you chew your food really well and eat slowly, you will be satisfied much sooner. Eat every meal with chopsticks if that will help slow you down!

Stick to unrefined organic coconut oil and butter for fats because they bypass the liver (avoid all other fats, except primrose, flax and fish oils...these are fine).

Nutrient dense foods will help with blood sugar providing enough nutrients and protein to stabilize.

These basic requirements for good nourishment and digestive wellness address the cause at the level of one's basic needs and lifestyle.

Only after these needs have been met, would it be optimal to add herbs or supplements to the equation, all of which will have a better chance of supporting one through morning sickness while not having to work against deficiencies and not-so-helpful lifestyle habits.

oh and I almost forgot! Get fully hydrated! In some cases morning sickness is due to "drought management" www.thewatercure.com

Keeping it simple!

Sherry

p.s. To the pregnant lady worried about not having morning sickness, I have two healthy children, not a day of morning sickness with either of them!

well , 4 pregnancies no morning sickness with any and only one miscarriage (actually quite a few weeks before I miscarried I felt really unwell entering an aviary in a zoo place, that's how I put two and two together and realised I was about 2 weeks pregnant)

never heard of a link between no morning sickeness and increased rate or miscarriage ... relax, you are lucky !

maybe you could say that morning sickness might be considered a good thing because your body makes you know in a obvious way that you have different needs for the next few months & so it calls for extra pampering & being very attentive to your needs .....

Congratulations!
I haven't had a TF pregnancy... but I will say with my first, I was under a great deal of stress (dropping out of grad school, but had to finish my semester, teaching, very emotional) and every night, without fail, I threw up. So I was sick at night. With my second, however, I was in a better place so far as my stress level, and had occassional icky feelings but never vomited or anything.

But I do know pleny of pregnancies where there was little or no MS and there are happy kids running around now.

It'd going to be tricky because I've been ordered off of dark green veggies!!! I have a clotting disorder and have to avoid vitamin K

Congratulations! Try not to worry...you're probably just one of those lucky 20% of healthy pregnancies that doesn't experience any nausea.

Morning sickness is related to dehydration, try to drink lots and lots of water, your baby needs it too!

About greens: try blending a bit organic spinach or silverbeet up with banana and whatever ingredients you like in your smoothies. I hate greens but this lets me eat a good amount of raw greens a day

Another option would be to get a juicer. Use 50% fruit to hide the 50% veggies including greens. If you need access to affordable organic produce, let me know and I'll hook you up with our co-op
