I just sold some diapers on ebay an asked for funded paypal only. I got paid by the buyer, but paypal charged me .95 for it, because of my status. I have to accept her payment now. Does that mean she paid with a credit card?

What do you all do about that, if that is the case? Should I upgrade my account and just pay the fee? Or, should I decline the payment and ask for funded paypal? I was pretty clear in my payment instructions.

Thanks ladies! :) I'm a new ebayer, but getting addicted! What a way to buy more diapers!!

I can try to help before you fall off the page

I have a personal paypal account, meaning I can't accept credit card payments. The last time an Ebayer buyer tried to pay me with a CC I 'declined' it because I had no interest in upgrading and paying higher fees. I emailed my buyer and we worked out something else. Another time I decided to accept the payment and the subsequent upgrade but then I emailed paypal right after, who allows you to downgrade your account (they will let you do it only once) if you wish.

To some people 'funded' paypal means credit card payments too. The only way to really protect yourself is to spell out "non-credit-card funded" in huge letters and hope someone sees it. Good luck!

I agree with the mum above. A good way to do it is (if you can) just have 2 accounts with paypal. That way for ebay when the world is your oyster you can just give them your cc funded account and then when working with most of us cdi'ing and cooping mommas you can use the personal account where you won't be charged fees. I just don't think its' worth the hassle with Ebay because so many people totally don't understand the cc paypal deal.

I get these all of the time! It's always in my auctions and say it in my email to them. If you don't want to upgrade then just decline the payment.

If you upgrade the account you will be charged fees the same fees on EVERY transaction no matter how it is paid. If you are a premier member, or a business member you get charged the fees no matter what. So think about that before you decide if you want to upgrade. There are advantages, the pay pal debit card is one of them, you can use it anywhere they take mastercard and use it at ATM's to get money out of your pay pal account. I don't think you can get it with a personal account.

Now having two accounts with pay pal (one for funded one for cc's) seems like such a huge pain to me, for one you can't use the same bank account or credit card to hook it up, so you have to have two cc's and two bank accounts to have two pay pal accounts (well in order to be verified anyway), not to mention when I tried it they wouldn't even let me use my home address, so that is two addresses too. What a pain.

I opted to upgrade but I have a business so it made sense, also whenever I use the PP debit card I get a % back on my fees, so I only end up paying like 1/2 of the fees if I use the debit to withdrawl the balance, which I usually do, thank goodness the yarn store takes Mastercard! ~

Thanks ladies! I knew you all would know the 411 on this, because it was a bit confusing on paypal.

I emailed the buyer to ask for another form of payment. Luckily she's local (small world!) so I said I could even hand deliver her diapers and she could just give me cash or a money order, and save on shipping!

I will have to spell it out more next time though. I did just say "funded paypal only" so next time I'll get into more detail about it.

Thanks again!
