I'm just wondering if anyone here has issues with soy but is still able to ingest things with soybean oil or the NN supps.

I have either a soy allergy (from skin prick tests a long time ago and current RAST showed slightly elevated) and/or intolerance (delayed reaction during elimination diet).

My understanding is that even if you have issues with soy, you should still be able to ingest soybean oil, as all the soy protein is removed. My ND wanted me to trial just plain soy oil, but it is not sold around here.

I have been taking Nordic Naturals fish oil gels. Sometimes I'm fine and sometimes my stomach feels a bit icky after taking them. I called the company and they said their Vit E is derived from soy, but all protein is taken out. Of course, the label is misleading on their Ultimate Omega because it doesn't specifically say soy.

I try to avoid all soy just in case (including lethicin). Cutting out the soy last year, my seasonal allergies were WAY better and also so far this year not many problems.

So do you think it's safe for me to continue taking the NN fish oil gel? I really hate taking the straight liquid . I have also had to avoid cooking spray when I can because I haven't found any w/o soy lethicin. I think I had soy lethicin in a smoothie once and it made me sick, but there were also a couple other ingredients in there that I hadn't had before, so it could have been those.

Thanks!

We aren't able (intolerant) to have ANY soy of any form. We have a pump spray that I put olive oil in (to alleviate the spray oil problem). And I haven't been taking the fish oil because I haven't found one that doesn't have soy-derived stuff in it, unfortunately. My friend in the real world with IgE soy allergies, can tolerate the oil and lecithin though.

Thanks! I bookmarked your recipe blog. It seems at some point i just may need to find straight soy oil and trial it.

I do wish NN would make a fish oil soft gel that doesn't contain any soy at all! They seem to think that just because there is no protein that everyone can have it.

On my EDiet, I did do OK with fermented soy (tempeh and also maybe the tofu) so it could be that I'm ok with certain types of soy. I delay reacted to the edamame (it was organic so supposedly not GM).

Is the plain spray olive oil good for making pans non-stick for baking?

Sure, that's what I use in my pump spray.

ds is ige to soy and can not tolerate soy oil or any trace... even the vitamin e in nn fish oil. we use the blue ice fclo, orange flavor which is soy free (but very pricey) and he does not react to it. he had a patch of eczema on his face his whole life that did not go away until ALL trace of soy was out of his and my diet. this is like his warning light that he ate some soy now! hth jen
